The fluid in your brake fluid reservoir could be right at the level where the light is almost coming on but not low enough to stay on. Make sure the level is to the top line on the reservoir.

I have a 1998 626 Mazda transmission fluid overfilled

It could, because as the fluid get warm it expands. As it expands it might not flow thru the system as it was designed too. You might check your motor mounts also. I had a mini van that i thought the transmission was shot. It would **** and bounce. After getting under it I found 2 of its motor mounts were broke. When I fixed the mounts the jerking and bouncing went away.

Motor mounts

Most motor mounts can be installed with basic hand tools, depending on the location or style of the mount you will need a hydraulic jack to support the engine/transmission while you change the mount.

Turbine speed sensor

If you were replacing a speed sensor on a 1998 Mazda 626 where would it be located? You can find the vss by going under the car, on backside of transmission facing the floorboards. Right where the transmission mounts to the engine, near the motor mount you will find the vss which points is held in with a 10mm bolt and pulls out upward. I unfortunately snapped the bolt and took it out in pieces with a vise-grip. Good Luck! Bill in CT.

I have a 626. There's no good news here. Your transmission is gone. Try JDM engines and see if they can get you one. I think their website is They are who we deal with to find low mileage replacement motors and transmissions.
