Question about 2004 Chevrolet Aveo

1 Answer

I have a 2004 chevy aveo and I am having trouble replacing the thermostat housing on it. The original was plastic and I now have a metal one. The only issue is that I have put it in and started my car and it leaks antifreeze from the bolts. I really need help. What should I do??

Hummm, seal the bolt threads with teflon tape, I prefer yellow but white works fine also. Be sure to pressure test when you are finished.

The yellow tape is for natural gas pipe connections only. It is also thicker than the white tape. The white tape is for general applications and should be used in this application and other applications where water is present. You should chase the threads with a tap or thread tool before installing the bolts. There are several ways to fix this problem, teflon tape is at the bottom.

2004 chevy aveo

There is only 2 options.

1. Your radio code is in your paperwork for your car (Its on a hard plastic card) Find it.

2. Take your registration to Vin and Ser Number for your radio to your local dealer.

These codes are a guarded secret and no one code fits all.

Hope this tip helps guide you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

The thermostat housing on my 2004 Aveo blew apart and I lost all my colant. The housing looks like a 2 piece unit with an "O" ring between the 2 pieces. Is it really 2 pieces or is it supposed to be a 1...

Two piece where the thermostate sandwitched in the middle with the O ring to seal the two.But why they blew appart would be a better question.

The thermostat housing separated, or blew apart would be a better way of putting it. Im sure it needs a new housing but I cant figure out how to put a new thermostat into the new housing. This is a 2005...

This is a notorious Aveo problem, These are poorly made. You need a new thermostat housing it includes the thermost on the 04-05' Aveo. It is all one sealed part from the factory. The original part is made of plastic. Chevy has an aluminum one now that won't break but it's MSRP price from the dealer is $91.78 got one and put it on my mothers car works fine now. So you can't just put a new thermostat in it you need the whole housing which already has the thermo. in it.

Needing Thermostat housing

Of course. Ebay is your best friend. Well, next to me of course!

Here is the search criteria I used:

thermostat (daewoo, dae)

This brings up anything with "thermostat" and "daewoo" in the name, or anything with "thermostat" and "dae" in the name, just in case some spelled it "dae woo".

I also expanded the search to include store inventory.

Here is the one I think will work best for you:

or you can type in the item number: 370156811371

This guy has several and is selling them for only $45 plus $12 shipping.
It's advertised as being an improved design, metal instead of plastic. I'm assuming you had the plastic kind?

Double check the VIN numbers like he suggest and if it checks out, go order it!

Good luck! Hopefully this is helpful to you.

Brake lights

My daughters' brand new 2004 Aveo kept having dead batteries(we were on vacation). Finally someone noticed the brake lights were on and it was determined to be a problem in the gear shift, good luck! The engine thermostat is plastic and melted off causing fluids to get into the pistons. We argued and argued and finally Chevrolet picked up the bill for the engine being rebuilt. Then, the windshield cracked with no point of impact, cracked all the way around front window. The fuse keeps blowing on the power windows and now oil light is on and won't go off. Had new oil filter and oil change done. Hate this car!

2004 Aveo Unknown will not start

Daughters 2004 Aveo stopped dead on freeway. Plastic thermostat on engine and melted off. Chevy said it blew the engine, searched on line and found 17 pages of same complaint. Chevy repaired car for free. Still not worth the worry. But if this is your problem, fight it don't pay for repairs!
