    Hi Eric,

Since I am not familiar with this vehcile where do locate the fuel filter? Second, is enough fuel a couple gallons?

  • mjceraolo Oct 10, 2010

    Thanks Eric,

Couple things did add more fuel and since the vehcile was on a slope reposition the car to level the it off. Was just a additional thing that I had done.

Botton line it was probable the issue of not putting enough fuel in the vehcile the first time.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You either haven't put enough gas in or your fuel filter may be blocked or the fuel pressure is too low to supply enough fuel. Try changing the fuel filter after you put more gas in it & try starting the engine first. Good luck!

Usually the fuel filter is on the frame rail, passenger side, ahead of the rear tire. It may not be. It's a large tank

You know that running the later model vehicle's out of gas burns out the fuel pump as they are lubricated and cooled in GASOLINE now knowing this the fuel pump is under the rear seat so remove it and check the pump or better yet since you keep it low on fuel I would replace it and then find out why it shut off if this doesn;t fix it Now this is an educated guess .Or you gas purchase an in expensive fuel presure gage and test it I n the fuel rail on the engine you will find what looks like a valve stem for a tire where you put air in only stainless steel this is the hook up it should read about 39 lbs and hold if it drops with in 30 minutes the pump is bad and way and will quit intermitley if you get nothing check the relay and listen for the pump to make a buzzing sound if the relay is OK replace the pump now this is a thirty second thought for me to check one out but I am 60 years old and have been doing this since I was a young kid now you have enough info to be dangerous BE CARE FULL GAS is DANGEROUSjlelandthomas

1995 Firebird After Running Low on Gas

You have most likely sucked residue in the bottom of the fuel tank into your fuel filter, This can cause it to get blocked, Try fitting a replacement fuel filter as it's most likely it's never been changed anyway.

06 Mustang Gas Tank; Last 2 times I couldn't take in more than 7 gal fuel before filler shut off occurred. After that, filler would shut off after every .1 gal. When at Costco with 10 cars waiting to...

There is a fault with the fuel tanks in the 06 cars (and some 05). It is a well known problem and Ford has issued a service bulletin on the issue.

It also seems to be a problem with the fuel pumps at certain gas stations but not others. Try a couple of different service stations (not the same fuel brand) and see if you have the same shut off problem because some people have found that the pumps at some gas stations do not cause premature shut off when re-fueling their 06 Stangs.

I would contact the nearest Ford dealer service people and see if they will rectify the problem for you FOC even though the vehicle is now out of warranty. In some vehicles the fuel tanks were replaced to fix the problem but not in all apparently.

In the meantime you can try 2 means to resolve the problem that has worked for some (not at the same time).

1. Turn the fuel pump nozzle 45 - 90 degrees when re-fueling and do not run the pump full bore. Slow the fuel flow a little.

2. I would avoid this one and I do not recommend it but it has worked well for some people with your problem. Turn on the car's ignition (not the engine)before you fill the tank . Switch it off immediately you have completed re-fueling.

Ran 1998 ford winstar out of gas. put 5 gallon in tank but won't start

More than likely you have a fuel pump issue. The fuel in the tank not only powers the engine but it also helps keep the fuel pump cool. running it low/out of fuel could cause the pump to overheat but it is possible that your fuel pump was already weak. An easy way to check it is to turn the key on and check the schrader valve on the fuel rail by pushing it in with a small screwdriver,if nothing squirts out you dont ha(red button popped out on top)ve any fuel pressure. The next step would be to check the inertia switch, make sure it isnt tripped. If it isnt check power on both wires of the switch with it plugged in. It should have power for about 1 second on both wires after keyed on,if so,I would suspect the fuel pump

Yes fuel should come out when the pump is running. There is a little sock or filter at the end of the pick up tube in the fuel tank that feeds the fuel pump. This screen is very fine to filter out small particles. This sock is probably plugged up. To fix you will need to drop the fuel tank remove the sock and then clean out the debris from the tank. Even though the gas stations run filters off their pumps you still get floaters in your tank from the gas stations and if you tend to run your tank low always your sock will plug up eventually. If you turn the vehicle off it may restart again until the sock plugs again and then shut down.

STARTS BUT CUTS OUT WHEN PUT IN GEAR

The problem was not a problem at all, apparently it was the fact that when my vehicle was parked in the driveway which is on a bit of a slope. That caused the fuel to shift in the tank causing my problem. When I backed the vehicle out of the driveway and got on level ground the problem corrected itself and everything was fine. This is the only time I have ever had this problem since I've gotten the car. Also another indication I did'nt catch initially was that the low fuel light came on when I tried to start the vehicle earlier.

one on chassis back by the fuel tank under neithe
and the never ending sending unit in the tank this has a filter on it and could be clogged with debry also the gas you use could be causeing the sluggish ness cheap gas has debry in it
