Question about 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Trying to set the cams for a mitsubichi eclipse 2.0 had the head re-worked new gasket and a valve job need to set the cams so the valves open and close correctly 1999 eclipse I get compression and then i loose it rotating it by hand

No spark I believe?


the valves can be open if the cam is still in the head, if you remove the cam and any of the valves are open they are probably bent, this can happen if the timing belt is out of time the pistons hit the valves, if that's the case have the valves replaced and check the heads for damage, the replace head and new timing belt, making sure the timing is correct

If my timing belt broke while trying to start my 2006 galant but it never cranked over is my motor damaged ?


Yes -- the motor is identified as an interference engine and that means in the event of belt failure there will be damaged valves from hitting the pistons. IT is a matter of removing the head and replacing the bent valves . There should be not other damage to the engine . The job in an accredited shop will be around $1000 dollars which should include valves -head gasket kit-new belt- idlers -hydraulic tensioner and cam and crank seals and labour

How can a 2006 dodge charger motor work if there is no pressure to four of the cyclinders


sounds like the cylinder head is either not seated properly or damaged.
will have to pull the head and inspect it and the gasket for leakage.
there is the possibility that the head is warped.
if so pull both and have them resurfaced. get the gasket set for valve job.
Last would be that the valves are damaged and not seating.
in this case the cam could be damaged also. to check turn the motor over and watch for valves not opening.
very remote possibility of the pistons being broken or broken block.

How do i change the timing belt?


This is a long process. The good news is you can do it without pulling the motor. THe bad news is you need 2 floor jacks and a set of jack stands to do that. You will need to go to Auto Zone and borrow the Chrysler Harmonic Balance pulley puller as that is the only special tool you should need to do the job. I highly recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on this vehicle for this job. If that belt broke while the motor was running I will tell you know that you will need to have the head repaired because it will have bent every valve in the head assembly. After jacking the vehicle up and supporting both sides with jack stands you need to put a floor jack under the motor near the outside edge passenger side, Remove the tire and disconnect the lower engine support strut from teh motor then the upper support. After disconnecting and removing the belts remove the intake manifold, power steering pump, and supports then lower the engine several inches to gain access to the Harmonic balance bolt. Remove the bolt then use the special tool and insert to remove the Harmonic Balance pulley. Remove the timing belt covers and front plate that attaches to the upper motor mount arm from the motor, it's a tight fit, Remove the Valve cover and follow the proper removal sequence for the head bolts. DO NOT FORGET TO SET THE MOTOR TO #1 TDC BEFORE starting this job. Remove the spark plugs and lift the head off. (I assume you know to remove the wires and disconnect the radiator lines from the motor before starting.) Remove the remains of the old timing belt, realign the harmonic Pulley, place the head on and follow the bolt tightening sequence to torque it down correctly and align the cam pulley so that #1 valves are both closed and the #3 intake valve (the valve on the left) is open and the other valve is closed which should put the Cam Shaft key guide for the pulley at 12 o'clock. Compress the Timing Belt tension pulley with an allen wrench in the small hole and place the timing belt in place, release the tension arm. Put everything back in place reversing the order you disassembled them in and once everything is back it should start right up. I've done this 4 times on this model vehicle. Takes about a day and a half to get everything done if you can get the head back that fast. You really need the Haynes Manual for the Torque sequence and Torque settings for that head. Being Aluminum it breaks and bends very easy with you don't follow the right sequence. You will need a new Head Gasket, Valve cover seal, front seal and Intake Gaskets (There is one for each cylinder) Most of the nuts and bolts are 10mm, 12mm, and 11mm with a few 14 mm. I recommend sockets and 2 of each wrench with both open and box ends. The main bolt on the balance pulley is a 21 mm.

Head Gasket?? Valve cover Gasket???


most likely it is the valve cover gasket. it covers the valve train where there is alot of oil to lube the top of the motor. if the head gasket was leaking it may have more signs of running poorly. also having coolant leaks also. so i will have to say valve cover gasket. now usally you may have a oil burning smell with it depending on the area of the lek but not always.

the valve cover can easily be seen when the hood is open. it is right on the top and where it meets the clyinder head is where the gasket is and the leak can be seen.

Most likey a bad head gasket between #2 and 3 cylinder. Pull the valve cover and see ifthe valves are working, and blue smoke could be valve guide seals and the valves may be stuck open.

2003 Mitsibushis Eclipse GS won't start?


If the timing belt is broken, chances are you would hear the pistons banging into the open valves as the engine turned over (broken timing belt means cam is not turning, and some valves will be open.).

Please reply what led up to the engine not starting, from the last time that the engine ran.

burned valve is likely the culprit.... or bad rings.... hook air up to that cyclinder one at a time.... and listen where the air is escaping... be aware that the motor will rotate till the piston is at the bottom of it's rotation. if it's a burned valve you will have to remove the head and replace it but somewhat easier job then replacing the rings. darn almost forgot.... it can also be a blown head gasket.... same procedure but you might need a brush and some soap water to test for an air leak at the side of the head. when you are done spray some wd 40 on it to get the water off so the spark plugs do not arc.

I need to replace the valve cover gasket on my voltswagon jetta


you probably mean the valve head gasket.

In this case this is serious work and you should contact a local VW dealership or mechanic and have them do this work for you to insure a job well done. If you simply mean your Valve cover, then this is no big deal and can be done by taking out the 4 screws found at the corners of the valve cover and then simply lifting the cover free and replacing it with a new one/tightening the screws back down.
