The first thing to do is the throttle body needs to be cleaned, grime in this area prevents the throttle plate from closing completely and allowing air to enter, making the air/fuel mixture lean. The highway problem be cleared also.

Sounds dangerous and hard on breaks. I\'d catty with the throstle linkage under the hood. It should twist open with a bit of pressure, than snap shut when you let go. Yours won\'t. The return spring is worn, stretched out, or most likely gone missing or fell out. Find it and hook it up. Or any spring with the power to pull it back to a closed position. Must be hard to restart the car after it\'s warmed up too.

  1. Avoid idling. While idling, your car gets exactly 0 miles per gallon while starting the car uses the same amount as idling for 6 seconds. Park your car and go into the restaurant rather than idling in the drive-through. Idling with the air conditioning on also uses extra fuel. Also, avoid going so fast that you have to brake for someone. Whenever you brake, you waste the gas it took to get going that fast.
  2. Drive at a consistent speed. Avoid quick acceleration and hard braking. Cruise control will keep you at a constant speed, even when going up and down hills.
  3. Avoid stops. If approaching a red light, see if you can slow down enough to avoid having to actually stop (because you reach the light after it is green). Speeding up from 5 or 10 miles per hour will be easier on the gas than starting from full stop.
  4. Anticipate the stop signs and lights. Look far ahead; get to know your usual routes. You can let up on the gas earlier. Coasting to a stop will save the gasoline you would otherwise use maintaining your speed longer. If it just gets you to the end of a line of cars at a red light or a stop sign a few seconds later, it won't add any time to your trip. Ditto for coasting to lose speed before a highway off-ramp: if it means you catch up with that truck halfway around the curve instead of at the beginning, you haven't lost any time. In many cities, if you know the streets well, you can time the lights and maintain the appropriate speed to hit all green lights. Usually this is about 35 to 40 MPH.
  5. Slow down. Air resistance goes up as the square of velocity. The power consumed to overcome that air resistance goes up as the cube of the velocity. Rolling resistance is the dominant force below about 40 mph. Above that, every mph costs you mileage. Go as slow as traffic and your schedule will allow. Drive under 60-65 since air grows exponentially denser, in the aerodynamic sense, the faster we drive. To be precise, the most efficient speed is your car's minimum speed in it's highest gear, since this provides the best "speed per RPM" ratio. This is usually about 45 to 55 miles per hour.
  6. Use A/C only on the highway. At lower speeds, open the windows. This increased the drag and reduces fuel efficiency, but not as much as the AC at low speeds (35-40 mph). The air con - when used a lot - is known to use up about 8% of the fuel you put into your car.

When im at a red light i turn on my ac and my engine gos off . but i can run my ac when im on the highway or im moving in the car. but when im getting ready to come to a stop i have to turn off the ac or...


Problem could be a number of things:
  1. worn or slick drive belt - drive belt slips and with AC on could cause stalling
  2. bad MAF (mass air flow) sensor
  3. dirty EGR valve
  4. bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) - controls idling speeds under all conditions ie. engine is cold, warm, running with AC on

Sounds like it's bypassing the overdrive seals. This is the solenoid package. I would put some transmission additive in first, this reconditions the seals. TranX, Lucus are both good.

I have a 2002 Ford Escape. It ran perfectly until I took it for a car wash and it rained hard the next day. I then had rough idling, laboured acceleration and I threw a Code saying I was missing in 2 and...


I think someone gave you wrong information. You know what a rough idle and a misfire you just went through it. And you went through a emission test and passed. Here the thing about the emission test they do it 2 ways if you went on a dyno. The dyno loads the engine and pressurize the system. It looks for pressure failure,like sparkvoltage leaks,and like transmission pressure line and test its ability to maintain gear ratio at an approprate load. Then the dyno heats the vehicle now it looks for operating temperature and that all sensor are within fuel control and do not go out of range. Here the thing. 5000k and 4000k it takes that much to get it to cruising speed. and once there its okay. You are describing a transmission slip. And catalytic costing 4 thousand. From the dealer? If the catalytic are clog there is no way to get it to cruising speed , No youll loose power and the vehicle will keep slowing down. If the transmission is slipping it will slip in a variety of ways One way is what you described. It will 5000k and 4000k to get it to cruising speed then its okay. And not do highway speed , catalytic is about 1200. transmission are 4000k.Plus Ford tried to sue states that put the vehicle on dynos,due to the high trans failures(this is on going debate)

2003 B3000 v-6 idles rough but does not stall and runs well at highway speeds


Try turning on the ac or turning the steering. The increased load on the engine should lower the the rpm. If the Idle Air Control valve is working correctly it should sense the load and maintain the rpm or even increase it a bit.. Also this should be cover under warrenty.

the vdc off can result because the steering input sensor needs to be re calibrated with the nissan consult2 .
the vehicle dynamic control uses input from the abs,vehicle speed sensor,air bag sensor,yaw sensor and steering angle input sensor.

Computer fuel consumption indicator randomly displaying numbers


This is a potential solution but if you are traveling down the highway and take your foot off the gas (or if you are on cruise no gas is required to maintain your speed) then the instant mpg calculation is similar to this 60 MPH / 0.0 GPH so effectively you end up with infinite gas mileage. But because the motor has to idle it's always using a little gas so it puts a very small number for the denominator which ends up giving you a high MPG. I've seen this happen in many makes of cars and I don't think it's anything to worry about.
