No it's not dangerous to drive without it, just be sure you know how much oil you have in your motor. The only way to know without having a dipstick in there is to drain all the oil, and fill it up with new oil, unless you are sure that you have no leaks or you know that it doesn't burn any oil.I hope I could help, rate me accordingly, thanks.

I own a 1987 chevy iroc z28 and have found metal shavings on my dipstick will i need to replace my engine or can that be fixed

Does it burn oil, smell oil filler cap for burnt oil smell, dipstick must be magnetized, unusual. Safest for you to drop the oil in a long clean tray for inspection, be careful of sump plug as it should also have shavings, note if shavings are small and short, if long, then bearings are seriously in danger, flush engine with quality engine oil flush fluid, put new quality oil in and filter, run engine for around 250 miles and re inspect, dipstick, sump plug, and oil, if significant shavings are found, change all mains and con-rod bearings, if hardly any or none, reuse oil and check after about 1000 miles.

How do you check the transmission fluid level

you don`t say kind or model of car so this will be generic. with the car on a level surface running and warm, find the transmission dipstick tube, remove the dipstick wipe it off re-insert and pull out check the level at the end of the stick with it facing down so oil won`t run up the dipstick giving the wrong level. there should be markings on the end of the dipstick that will indicate from low oil to proper oil level. also smell the oil if it smells burnt have the transmission service done(change oil and filter). it should be a reddish colour not brown or dark in colour.

2008 GMC Sierra pickup. Driving and all of a sudden it shut off then turned back on; the doors unlocked then locked again. Now it won't do anything. Checked the oil and it was empty - no oil at

Running with no oil is death for the motor ( Seized). When the alternator stopped working because the engine stopped the door lock control opened the door locks as it said you were below the required speed to have them locked

Oil pressure light on after oil was changed

I would call whomever did the oil change as soon as possible. They may have not put the cap back on or may have not even put the oil in. Don't drive it! Without oil your engine will damage itself pretty badly.

Oil press. stop motor is written on the dash. I'm due for a oil change...is it dangerous to drive my car with this notice?

yes, you are in danger of ruining your motor.. check your oil by pulling out the dipstick, wiping the oil of the end of the dipstick and replace it fully down again into the dipstick tube. Pull it out again and check the level of the oil. If it is low, add oil before driving. If it does not show on the dipstick, add 1 quart at time and check the level each time before adding more, until it is to the correct level marked in the dipstick

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 at 11,000 KM soon and the oil hasn't been changed yet...I have an appointment in 2 weeks. Is it dangerous to drive until then?

Hi:
You can drive it safely, if you at least check the oil to make sure it is still close to full on the dipstick. If your oil is low, you should add some before you continue to drive it!

How quarts of oil does a 1992 passat hold, no manual and has the wrong dipstick in it. The car was given to me. The oil light and alarm is driving me nuts. The dipstick that is in it is reading full but...

That car takes 4.2 US quarts or 4 liters when you change the oil and filter. It takes 3.7 US quarts or 3.5 liters without the filter change.
Change the oil and mark the dipstick with a file so you know where the full mark is. Also that engine has 2 oil pressure switchs on top of the oil filter housing. If they aren't connected or faulty the oil light will come on. Hope this helps.

Oil light came on and dings. Just had oil changed? What could be the cause?

First, pull the dipstick on the engine and make sure you've got sufficient oil in the pan.
If not, DON"T drive it until you have sufficient oil as indicated on the dipstick
Alot of these chryslers don't have oil pressure guages, only lites to tell you when you are dangerously low on oil. if this is the case, be sure not to drive it until you have this issue resolved.
It also could be that the oil pressure sensor wire got knocked off the motor.
Be sure to have a mechanic put an oil pressure guage on your engine to physically check if you're getting oil pressure.
Don't take any chances on this... it means the difference between a running engine and one that is siezed..

Indicator light said check transmition

Is it the check engine light or the oil light coming on? Where is your dipstick? and if it is the oil light, put a quart of oil in before you go anywhere and then buy a dipstick. If it is the service engine light only just drive it for 20 miles without a problem.
