Question about 2004 Isuzu Ascender

2 Answers

I have my 2003 isuzu ascender, v6 4.2l engine. I just had a water pum, pulley and the s belt replaed. Now the check engine light came on so I had it checked. I am now being told I need a camshaft sensor. Did the repair mess up the timing and could this be why? As I have driven it for 2 weeks since the repair there has been no increase in fuel usage, no problem starting or rough idle. Does this make sense? How easy is the fix? I am a single mom trying to fix somethings on my own if ossible, funding you know. THANKS for any help. LISA

Lisa, try going to an automotive parts store like O'rielly's or Autozone, most will read the code for you for free. Report back with the # they give you. ie. P0XXX

The S belt as you call it, has no timing to worry about as it drives external components only. So that shouldn't be an issue unless the camshaft sensor was disturbed and there is no need to do that. If it is faulty, the engine won't run.

SOURCE: Failed Smog Test - 4 codes for 2001 Isuzu Rodeo

Tune it up and replace the 02 sensor that keeps setting the codes bank 2 sensor 1. Have your oil and filter changed right before you go for a retest to. That will clear up 3 codes P0300, 0155 and 0154. You might have to replace the fuel sending unit to get rid of P0463 but if the gauge works OK I'd leave it alone.

SOURCE: Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

SOURCE: Check engine light--dealer says it's the thermostat

It's not the t-stat they read the code wrong go to checker or any auto parts store and use one of there code readers, I had a shop tell me the same thing. the codes are right next to each other Also you don't need to remove engine to do this job you just take off the alternator it's right under. My shop quoted me $300 for a $25 dollar part

Instrument cluster is going crazy on my 2003 Isuzu Ascender, tach stays at 7000 RPM, fuel gauge all over the place, ammeter says 19 volts, check engine light on & off, among other things.

It may have a faulty cluster. Or possibly could have a charging system problem.
Take it to a dealer and have it scanned for codes.
The instument cluster is a module that can store trouble codes. If the cluster is at fault the new one will have to be programmed to the vehicle to work correctly.
