Hello! Most auto part stores will test an alternator (removed from vehicle) for free...But an easy method is to measure and record the battery voltage with the engine off...Then with the engine at idle...The voltage should increase by 1.5- 1.8 volts...Which is an indication the alternator is working....Example...If it read 11.5 with engine off, it should read at least 13.3 volts at idle...If it remains at 11.5 the alternator is at fault...A re-manufactured alternator for your Golf would cost about $180...Factor in labor and $211 is a very good price...Sounds to me like the garage is an upright place...

If he checked the voltage with the car running, it should be at least 14 volts. It sounds like he's telling the truth. This is a common reason for the light to come on.

How to replace temperature sensor in vW golf citi 1.4i 2006

I am driving VW Citi golf sport 1.4i,every morning whn is cold my car couldn't start, after many attempts it would and when I try to accelerate it will choke. After buying the temperature sensor my problem was solved. the mechanics advised me to buy petrol filter and petrol gauge regulator and a petrol pump, thanks I didn't buy them. Only a temperature sensor made my car a comfortable drive.

My vw golf 1.4 cuts out as i approach junctions, traffic lights etc. took it to the garage, they tested it and said it was fine. when it cuts out the alternator workshop lights come on, but the garage say...

Is it a VW specialist? Ask them to put it on VAGCOM equipment (it's a software program which can connect to the ECU by a cable which plugs under the dash. If they don't have it or just generic software with less functionality, go to a VW specialist (independent if possible it'll be cheaper) and it should help identify the issues. not being smart but you are being fed porkies.. it sounds like you are drawing air somewhere or you have throttle body problems. you will need to get it on to a diagnostic computer to tell.
