Question about 1983 Lincoln Mark VI

Open Question

My car cuts off an my oil pressure and charge system warning light flashes on my dashboard. Every diagnostic I have had done(3 total) comes back good, but the car still cuts off after driving for about fifteen minutes but immediately turns right back on when I turn the key. Passes smog drives nicely just will turn off especially if I accelerate and have to decelerate after high speeds(like driving on a freeway) has a new voltage regulator, engine coil, engine control switch and control module. Fuel filter, brake lines,tune-up, oil-change, and many other parts changed out but same result still turns off. Its a great car only has 42,000 original miles and sat for a full year and a half before it came to my possession. I figure to try to get an full engine and fluid flush or change out my throttle body to see if sludge is my problem do not know what else to do?

check and make sure the fuel pump inertia switch has not been trip. it is located in the trunk on the left side trunk hidge support. Push the button down on top of it and see if it clicks.

That vehicle probably needs a larger battery but I doubt that is the problem. I assume you have the V-8 in that year model but even the V-6 should have 850 cold starting amps. My next step would be to look at the Throttle position indicator which controls the throttle at idle. If your vehicle doesn't have one, possible on that year model, you may need to clean the Carburetor or injectors to get more consistent gas flow. If all of that is good I would look at the vacuum advance and timing.

The oil warning light has nothing to do with oil level. That is not the way this warning system works. The warning light comes on when the oil PRESSURE drops too low as determined by an oil pressure switch installed on the engine. So you could have low oil on the dip stick but still have enough oil to maintain oil pressure in the engine. It is also possible that the oil pressure sensor is faulty. This probably is not connected to the vehicle cutting out when passing the truck. That could be something as simple as a dirty fuel filter or clogged injector. Since you are losing oil there are a variety of problems that your engine could be having.

ABS Light is on dashboard


Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS, TPMS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

VW Golf Mk4 1.4 16v Oil Light Warning on Dash


Measure your oil at normal operating temp, without the engine running of course. This will give you a more accurate reading once the oil has circulated in the system.

The system works like this:
  • With the ignition on, the oil pressure indicator light on the dash should come on and flash. Once the engine is started, the light should go out and stay out as long as the engine is running.
  • If the oil pressure drops below approximately 0.3 bar or 5 psi when the engine is running below 2000 rpm, the light will flash.
  • If the oil pressure drops below approximately 1.8 bar or 27 psi when the engine is running above 2000 rpm for more than 3 seconds, the indicator light will flash and the buzzer will sound.
If either this two warnings occur:
  • The engine should be switched off immediately and the oil level should be checked.

2006 engine system warning light shows up in the gage readout area in front of steering wheel. Checked oil, maybe 1/2 qt low. Added oil, started car warning label came back and stayed on until I switched...


wait till the light comes back on then take it to autozone to get a free check engine diagnostic done. it is free. they will tell you why its coming on. could be a million different things
