Question about 2000 Toyota Celica

1 Answer

Ticking sound This morning while the car was cold, started it up. Then went to the store and all of a sudden hearing a ticking sound. Sounds like engine has no oil. But I did check and there is oil 3/4 full, I check the transmission oil, that's fine, brake fluid and thats fine, even the water in the the plastic container is normal position. The ticking sounds like a tap, tap, tap or tick tick tick. It happens when the engine is hot or running. When being parked it's quiet. Any suggestion(s). I hope it don't cost to much to fix. The car has only 67,000 miles on it. Carol

2004 Cadillac cts Car would not start so i replaced the catalyst converter and after doing so it started right up but was making a ticking noise from rear of engine

ticking noise sounds like a small exhaust leak. Get under car and run your hand near where you hear it. That could be because of the recent exhaust work. A small leak sounds just like a tick in the engine

Whats the ticking sound all of a sudden?

It sounds like a collapsed hydraulic valve lifter- a part of yoiur valve train in the upper engine. You need to have it checked at a shop you trust I don't know of any oil additives that can cure this, although someone here may give you some advice.
Loose valve train noise is common on high-mileage engines, but if it is a collapsed lifter, I think you should have it checked.
A loose timing chain will make a rhythmic slapping sound, but the ticking you describe sounds more like it's in your valve train. Have someone check it.

2009 Ford Flex when started first thing on a cold morning it ticks/knocs really really loud, once it warms up the ticking goes away to a very light tick. The dealership ruled out an exhaust manifold leak....

It does sound like a valve lifter problem to me also. It should be covered under warranty. It's a mechanical failure of a component of the drivetrain. Ask them to show you the specific exclusion if they say it's not a warranty problem.Powertrain warranty is 60 months/60,000 miles ( which ever comes first).

Hi! I tried to start my car (2000 Chrysler Cirrus) this morning, but it just makes a muffled growling noise an/or a ticking noise. My friend came by to jump start it, but that didn't work. Any ideas?

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me that your starter has just broke it's last leg. Many things can cause the starter to go bad. If all you hear is a ticking noise, then chances are that the starter gave up. You can have someone take it off and go to a parts store and have them test it for you, (some MAY charge you for this while others won't). This will tell you if your starter needs to be replaced. Be prepared. Considering the year, a replacement may very well be tastey expensive. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Ticking sound

Gm will tell you this is normal lifter noise if it from the top of the motor. It could be from the exhaust but you would hear it from under the car more. I do not care for the responce from GM but they say it is ok.
