Question about 2002 Lincoln LS

2 Answers

My 2002 40k miles or less Lincoln LS V6 has the check engine light solid. It stalls and is starting to become hurky jerky when sitting still in park for the last two days. I think it is the number # 2 sensor :CAT Converter or spark plugs and or valves or bott...? Not sure what to do or what type of cost I am looking at? Thinking of fixing it and then selling the car before I cost myself an arm and a leg in future repairs. No real problems except minor window problems "cable broke" the past 2 yrs but like the car and the drive so far. Looking online at the issues and I am very VERY nervous now. Please advise ASAP.

Well, with the cost of parts, you can no longer "try" an item. The engine light being on means the computer detected something wrong. Your description verifies that. You need to pull the codes and address those issues.

So what can it be, TONS of stuff, but it can also be a vacuum hose fell off and one cylinder is lean and misfiring because of that.

You most likely would NOT have valve problems. Valves go forever, now days. Focus on your issue, and it costs what it costs. The car has little appeal for a new buyer, running as you describe...So probably fix it anyways. Pretty much all cars work this way, now. No guessing, pull the codes.

Check to see if there is water in the drivers side valve cover. Take out one of the COP and see if water has seeped in there. My 2003 V6 had a gap in the rubber seal above the engine. Water would pour down onto the V in the valve cover, eventually seeping into the plugs. Cleaned all this out, built a simple diverter to keep water from pouring in there and it runs fine. I just recently got a P0430 code which I attribute to driving for a bit when it was running poorly.

I have a 96 geo prizm and it cuts out and jerks at acceleration and wont pull a hill and stalls at lights

I would start with a tune up-fuel filter, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaner, air cleaner-then if your still doing the hurky jerky you may try replacing the fuel pump-Denny

When you operate the brakes, does the brake light come on?
If not, then check and/or replace your brake switch (located towards the top of the brake pedal).

If your brake light works, then check the gear shift lock solenoid operation. Check for power to the solenoid, when the brake pedal is depressed and check the solenoid movement. Replace if necessary.

What's your problem?I have a 2000 Lincoln LS that runs great when driving but as soon as I stop and sit a minute it cuts off. I have noticed the car start stalling a little before it cuts off. Cou

Generally speaking, the common reasons for stalling are a faulty idle air control valve or a dirty throttle body.
The computer controls idle speed by how much air is allowed into the intake thru the throttle body.
Those two issues would be checked first.
Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?

This sounds like you have a pcv hose that has become an open vacuum leak. It is located under the upper intake, or given the year your air filter box may not be correctly sealed and possibly have a mass air flow sensor concern. Any Check engine light or codes to work with ? I f you have further questions just leave a comment on my page,

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

Lincoln LS 2000 V6 overheating after reparing intake manifold lea

Couple of items you need to check. Make sure that your radiator is flowing properly. Often after sitting dry, blockages harden up and flow less than before, overheat originally before repair can also free up debris inside engine and add to plugging of core. Make sure that fans are operating especially with ac on. If you did not change thermostat during repair, change it. Not often but they can sometimes partially open, restricting flow. Also make sure that coolant is at correct concentration (50/50) and that there is no air trapped in the system.
