Question about 2000 Saturn SL
I have a 2000 Saturn. I want to know, how to tell if my alternator is gone or my baterry. I have read up on it and there are some uncertainties that crop up. I boosted the car for minutes and it started great. Stop started it serveral times. (no diming of lights). I put the car in start position without starting, put blower on max, lights, wipers and the car died in 5 seconds.Battery or alternator???? I await anxiously. Lee

I had a '95 Saturn, the alternator looked like any other GM car's. It is located on the passenger's (right) side between the engine and firewall, you have to jack up the front and remove the right front tire, then there is an access panel in the rear side of the wheel well. Remove that and you can (fairly) easily disconnect everything and remove the alternator through that opening. Of course you have to disconnect the battery ground cable first, and use proper jackstands and block the rear wheels and set the parking brake, but I assume you know all that. Never get under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
I have never worked on a Cavalier, but I think it is a similar design.
