First look for another key. There is always another one someplace. If you bought the car new, the dealer may have the key code on file. The key code may also have been written in the owner's manual. But you can also take a door lock out, and make a key from it.
Basically the idea is you insert a blank, mark the furthest point of insertion with tape, then use a rat tail file to remove portions of the key pushing the tumbler plates out too far. Don't file away too much, or the plate sticks out the other side. Use the tape as a reference for where to file, once key blank is removed.
You may have to remove some part of the lock in order to get the cylinder out and see the tumblers.

The simplest solution is to make a duplicate Key at the dealer for less than $10. You must show a picture ID, and some proof of ownership (The Title). The duplicate key will unlock the door, and unlock the steering wheel.

How do I permanently disable the steering wheel locking mechanism?

Of course it is locked. You cannot disable the steering wheel lock. . If you lost the keys you can get replacements from the dealer and have them programmed to the car as needed.

What you are trying to do is creating more problems and more expense for yourself.

I have a 93 regal buick and I can't turn my key something is lock. How can I unlock it?

It could simply be your steering wheel lock. Try turning the wheel to the left and right while you try turning the key.

You will have to disconnect he battery first and remove the steering wheel, autozone or advance auto parts rent the tool to remove the steering wheel. If not check around the steering wheel for some screws the hold the plastic that holds the trim around the steering wheel take them off and u might have access to the ign lock cyl but normally you wont be able to since u lost the key.

This is a 1998 Mercedes E280. Today I attempted to start the care as usual, but the key would not turn. I heard no sounds when I put the key into the lock which unlcoks the steering wheel, but just could...

SOUND LIKE PROBLEM THE KEY WORN OR LOCK CYLINDER COULD BE BROKEN .I WOULD CODE SCAN FOR FAULTY IMMOBILIZER MODULE OR KEY SWITCH COIL OR TRANSPONDER KEY.THE WAY MERCEDES BENZ GOT IT SET UP.IF IGNITION KEY AND LOCK CYLINDER ALSO IMMOBOLIZER MODULE HAS TO BE REPLACED THEY HAVE TO REPLACE AND REPROGRAM NOT A HOME FIX. THEY HAVE TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO REPROGRAM KEY SWITCH AND IMMOBILIZER.
