tried this three times did not resolve.. sound seems to come from the relays under the hood on the drivers side. switched couple of the relays same result. if i disconnect the positive on battery power restores. could it be starter solenoid?

the solution was very similar, a few years ago the positive connector to the battery corroded and i replaced. the bolts that clamp the wires in have loosened and was not making a solid connection. i discovered this while checking all the connections negative, then postive. thnak you for your time though...

This is caused by the connections on the battery are not tight enough. The click is when the starter solenoid is engaging the starter. When the starter is engaging then it draws a lot more amperage. When you put that kind of load on the battery, if the cables are not clean and tight it will cause the battery to lose connection and all of the power will go out.

Check the battery cable that it is tight to the battery. It may be making enough of a connection for accessories - but when the starter load comes in - there's not enough contact area for voltage to flow.

Thanks!

Hi! This occurs when anti theft is triggered. Try removing the positive battery connector and let it sit for 5 mins. Reconnect it again, insert the key and put it on position for 10secs. but don't crank it. Turn it off and remove the key. Insert the key again then put it on ON position and wait for 10secs. then try to crank it. The computer needs to relearn itself after the battery removal. Hope this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!

What's missing ? Fuel , spark . What condition is the battery in ? Fully charged 12.6 volts . When you turn the key to start does the starter spin the engine ? A crank no start or nothing happens when you turn the key to start . Videos on youtube ! Crank no start or no crank no start .

Tip

Dodge Durango Won't Start, Turns over, NO BUS on instrument cluster

1998 - 1999 Dodge Durango 3.9L
2000 - 2001 Dodge Durango 4.7L
1998 - 2000 Dodge Durango 5.2L
1998 - 2001 Dodge Durango 5.9L

The PCM has 3 connectors plugged into it. Try wiggling each connector and listen for a clicking sound, starting with the connector furthest from the front of the Durango, and the middle connector with a white top.

If this doesn't help, replace your PCM. The PCM (power control module) can get hot, causing a short or broken circuit inside the module. Replacing the module will fix the problem. If your truck dies randomly when it's hot outside, but will start back up after it cools down, this is probably the problem.

98 durango will not start good abttery and starter also starter relay is new

Hi queenshit200, I'm glad to help!

First you must make sure you have power from the ignition switch to the ASD Relay. Using a test light, turn the ignition switch to the on position and see if you have power at the relay, if the test lights up when you turn the key on and turns off when you turn the ignition off then it is OK from the ignition switch to the relay. NEXT, you must have battery power to the relay at all times, if you do then that circuit is OK. NEXT: make certain you have a good ground on the body of the vehicle and the engine. Also make sure you have a good power too power connection at the junction where the power wires meet together. If all that is OK, then you'll need to know if the Engine Controller is seeing something it doesn't like. OR it's possible the CRANK SENSOR or something else may be bringing down the BUS CIRCUIT. Unplug one thing at a time and see if it starts. If it does after unplugging that sensor or part then that's what you must replace to fix it. Hope this helps and have an awesome day.

Key turns on but no click or start, Radio works lights work but key turns hard. No solinoid click and doesn't start.

check battery and connections first starting requires 300 plus amps lights about 50 so lights work but not enough to start try jump and if starts take to parts store and have then test battery

1999 dodge durango wont start

Remove and clean both battery terminals, then reinstall making sure they are both tight. Also check the battery voltage with a voltmeter (it should read 12 volts minimum) or better yet take it to get it tested. The battery may need to be replaced.
