Question about 2002 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

Rear Lights Malfunctioning

I noticed that I have something funny happening with my rear lights. When the turn signal is on (either one) the dashboard rear fog light indicator dimly lights. If you apply the brakes the same indicator glows brightly. From the outside when the turn signal is on that same side brake light tends to fade in and out in time with the blinker.

Cars been pretty good to me so far other than a new transmission at 85,000 miles.

Details - Sport X Type, 3.0, 2002 - 120,000 miles

Summary Opinion - love this car

Any ideas before I take it back to the dealer for their fix?

Thanks,....Rick

Thanks very much for the feedback and by the way that was the problem exactly. I inspected the rear wiring and found a chaff mark on one of the wires. I replaced the harness and problem solved.

    Thank you Apprentice

Hi,

Usually when this kind of thing happens it will be a bad earth, that means that somewhere within the lighting circuit the earth cable has broken down. Try and locate the earth cable that connects the rear bulbs, see if any rust or damage is visible.
If not you could try adding a seperate earth cable to a clean point close to the bulb holder in the rear.

If this fails to work then it may be an idea to talk with an auto electrician.

Good luck.

My 2005 matrix keeps blowing 15amp rear running light fuse every time light get turned on all other lights work fine.whats causing this?

fuses blow because of dead shorts or excess current draw
to blow a 15 amp fuse indicates a dead short
by disconnecting the rear lights , the problem is in something else you have replaced
could be a problem in the head light wiring

What wiring do i need to check when i hit my breaks and my head lights pop up?

Now that's funny! Rear fixed...front pops! Since the rear is where the work took place you need to check for crossed wires at the brake lights and turn signal lights. If there is uneven current draw on the circuits, the lights in front could be getting some of the power. Brake lights get the most power in the rear bulbs!

Check BackUp Module, generally is located in the rear quarter panel (drivers side).

Turn signal light on dashboard is solid but no flashing in rear or front.

where did you get the flasher from? autozone? try to get another one from a good parts supplier. if not, check the bulbs themselves. if they are supposed to be a dual filiment bulb, and only a single filiment bulb is in there, it may not flash. try using the turn signals with the parking lights on. does this make a difference?

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek. My rear right signal/brake lamp does not work. When i signal left, the front and rear left lights flash normally. When i signal right, the front right light flashes normally...

as for the faster flashing thats as simple as a blown bulb, replace the bulb and see if that fixes the problem, it may fix the lot because the other symptoms you mention are a bad connection, if bulb is fine check the connection isnt loose or corroded over. if it is simply file it back to establish better connectivity,

Signal lights dont work when breaking

No,this is not normal, this normal when the emergency flashers are on,but not the turn signals.Check the bulbs(all of them)in the rear tail light assembleys. If you can not tell which bulbs are bad, replace them all.Does this vehicle have a trailer light plug?If it does,it could be in it.After the bulb replacement(look at bulbs in your hand to see if filiments are burned)replace the turn signal flasher. To find it turn key on,and left or right turn signal on,and listen, and feel for it under dash around the steering column.

Left turn signal, when on, causes lights to flash on dashboard

one of the lights has a ground fault, likely the ground wire is broken or badly corroded. so it could be either light on the affected side, check both front and rear light sockets for a ground wire or strap.(usually a black or green wire)
