Question about 2006 Ford Mustang

Open Question

My 2006 Mustang convertible top problem is becoming more frequent. When the switch is pressed to retract the top, there is no movement & pump noise or sporadic movement and pump noise. When the switch is pressed to close the top, it does so, but seems like it should move quicker. Could the retract issue be a faulty switch? Might I have more than one problem going on; a switch and slow moving top?

SOURCE: Convertible Top Wont move but motor sounds.

If what you are trying does not fix your problem and the motor runs, then crack the line loose at each top cylinder, the cylinder is equipped with a check valve inside it that may be stuck, releive pressure and try again to operate, if possible check pressure at the pump.

SOURCE: mustang 2001 convertible top goes up but not down.

I've had a similar problem with my Mustang. What they did was replace the switch. I don't believe they come with 2 motors. But I would definitely check the wires and look for a loose wire that goes to the down relay. If you get a wiring diagram in the owner's manual, or even a repair manual, you should be able to find which wire.

SOURCE: convertible top won't go back up, can you help?

IT is probably a fuse. Does it work at all? my mustang had a busted cylinder and only 1 side would go up. If it doesnt work at all then check your fuses. With no manual you will have to use a flashlight and shine on them and see if one is blown. IF they all look good then I would go buy a testlight for about $10 and manually check the fuses for power. It oculd be the motor, however that will cost you several hundred dollars and that is if you install it yourself.

Check the owner's manual fuse and relay, section, check the fuses and relays. Top fuses are10 amp, numbers 32 for the Audio system, ECC, convertible top, trunk lid cutoff, instrument lighting and 35 for the Accessories, convertible top, drivers vanity mirror light, courtesy lighting, auto-dim mirror function(option) in the auxiliary fuse box. If one of the items operated through these fuses, you will know which fuse it is. Remove the fuse and see if the arched link inside is broken or the inside of the fuse is blackened. Replace it only with an other 10 amp fuse. If it blows when you attempt to retract the top, study the linkage while extending the top, look for uneven movement left to right, indicating a bad pivot joint or interference. There is the remote possibility it may be worn or sticky brushes in the motor.

Top worked fine yesterday but today tried to let down only clicked

It is a hydraulic pump that applies pressure to the 2 hydraulic pistons to raise & lower the top. So, check for something obstructing movement first.

The convertible top:
  • is motor-driven.
  • requires parking brake engaged to complete circuit for operation.
  • is equipped with a back window glass (42006) . The back window glass is permanently attached to the folding top back window curtain (52500) and cannot be opened.

1989 convertible top has worked great, today putting it down, it stopped just about down, now the relays back by the pump just click, click, click when I press the switch. I changed the relays and they...

yes they can but it sounds like the "after load switch" sticking up,,,not the pump,,the top has a switch that tells it when its fully closed and this switch turns off the pump,,i would look at this first

How do i put the top down on a 1994 mustang convertable

Relase the 2 latches aove the windshield, lower the windows and then operate the switch to lower the top. the top has an electric motor that operates a pump that sends hydraulic fluid under pressure to a piston on each arm behind the rear seat. That raises or lowers the top.
