2005 Volkswagon Jetta Trunck Problems

I just came back from grocery shopping and my trunk will not open. I tried using my key remote and the button from the car but neither will work. I noticed for about a month that it would not shut very well but nothing, major (I thought). Any advice from someone? Thanks! Cassandra

    Same problem, trunk works sporadically

  • labrynthfire Jul 09, 2008

I had the same problem. Cost over $250 to get fixed. Warranty would not cover it.

Same story here. Problem started out where the trunk would not shut unless you slammed it. Slam it too hard and it won't open and they have to replace the trunk latch. Tech at dealer admitted this is a recurring problem with this model. I have to take it in for the second time.

Sounds like we all have the same problem with the trunk latch. I permanently took the molding off the back of the trunk lid. I found that if you disconnect the electrical connecter on the latch and reconnect it the trunk will close on the first try. took me all too long to figure this one out. good luck!

My trunk has this problem too... I found that if I play with the little plastic cover around where the latch connects... it will eventually shut... I press that cover in a few times, slide it left or right, until it is just in the right spot and close the trunk... some times it closes, but the light on the dash doesn't go off, so I have to use the key to open the trunk and repeat 4 or 5 times to get it to work... of course this broke just after the warranty expried... i'm off to the dealer this week to complain... sigh...

I had the same problem with the trunk release about year 2 on the car and it would release while driving. very dangerouse. checked to see dealer cost for repair which was crazy. We bought the $75 part and replaced it ourselves and have not had a problem since

I had the trunk problem, it would open if you use the key, but took a few tries to get it shut. Also the gas cover would not close. Both were covered by warranty because I was just under 50,000 miles.

The trunck will not lock

Try using the key to open it even if the trunks open. Sometimes the latches get stuck into the closed positions. Turning the key will put it back the the right position. Then it might close

Trunk will not release with key remote but i hear click noise from fuse block on passenger side dash i have no manual so i dont know what fuse operates what also never have found any other trunck release...

If the actuator mechanism is functioning (you hear the click) the next step is to see if the cable is connected to the latch. Open your trunk and press the button - watch what happens. You may have to manually 'lock' the trunk with the trunk lid open to observe the action. You can always unlock this latch with your key if necessary.

Let me know what happens ... good luck

Cant open trunck

if your seats lay down in the back there should be a cable to pull to open the trunk and check you fuses that maybe the reason its not working with the button.

VW Jetta 2003 1.9 TDI trunk does not want to open with remote My Jetta trunk recently started to give me problems without warning. I cannot get the trunk open with the remote. The trunk only opens manually...

It is your wiring coming out of the trunk on the left side. One of the wire are cut because in cold weather when you open the trunk, wire can't move easily in the plastic tube. Sorry for my english.
