Go to an Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan of your vehicle. This way you have a second opinion of the problem. You want to make sure the old problem codes are cleared.

You have a Warranty with the Ford purchase. Some of the Alternators have warnings not to install the Alternator with a low Battery. Although the Battery is new, it does not mean it was fully charged. Either way, its a Warranty problem but you can get your car checked on a Sunday at the autoparts stores and not the Dealer. Plus the scan is free.

Was it lit before you replaced it ? Check the wires that are connected to the alternator for B+ voltage ! Could have blown fuse or fusible link !

Battery light

need to check for system operating voltage..should be around 14.5 -16.. this could be why the light is on..also may need computer ecm memory erased..these computers always need the prior codes erased after any work is done.. failure to do so will cause lights to come back on..

Alternator/Electrical??

check the connection on your battery terminal ends. if they are loose or corroded that could explain the intermittent no spark. also could be a short somewhere but id check the terminals first. I had that problem once and the car did all sorts of weird things. airbag light, check engine light, randomly wouldnt start until i would mess with the battery.

Kia rio 02 died while driving down highway

The battery is only use to start the car, once the car is moving the alternator takes over and charges the battery. I sounds like the alternator is bad. You take the alternator to Napa, Auto Zone or Advance auto part and have them check it for you.

(Battery No Charge Message)

Yep.... the tired old battery may have cooked the alternator. If your lucky , maybe it is just the belt. Could be loose wire , or dirty connection on back of alternator too.
Alternator should not be THAT expensive , and an 85 caddy should be easy to get at alternator.
If a mechanic has quoted you lots of $$$ , check with another mechanic. Stay away from chevy dealership , or any dealership for that matter. They waaaayyyy overcharge. If their book says it is a 2 hour job , thats what you pay for , even if it only took them 20 min.

Is it my battery?

well this is what you should try ,,jump the car get it running
then when its warmed up take the positive lead of the battery
if the car stops the alternator is gone (thats what charges the battery) if the car runs its fine

and if u have put another new battery in it and the alternator is fine look for any broken wires earths or positives that could be making it drain so quick
and make sure your battery levels are full
hope this helps
