Question about 1995 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

Have a 95 tacoma sr5. power windows stopped working about 2 years ago, but the locks work fine. motors have been checked and work. 30a power fuse is getting power, but there is no hot coming into the switch. switch has also been replaced with a known working unit. the wires going from the switch to the motor have continuity. my wiring diagram states there should be a power window main relay between the 30a power fuse and the switch. i have 12v in the blue wire that supposedly goes from the fuse to the relay, but the blue/red wire that come from the relay to a junction and then to the switch does not have 12v. i do have continuity in the blue-red wire from the junction to the switch. my problem is that the wiring diagram says that there is a main power window relay before the switch. however the service manual makes no mention of it, and the parts stores say they have no listing for it. am i correct in assuming it is a broken relay since the blue-red is not getting power? or is it some other issue. i tried to follow the wires but it quickly dissapears into a mess of loom under the dash. no mention of the relay in the engine fuse box. i'm lost..please help

Is there a relay center under the dash? that might logically be where a window relay would be.
How about this? The 30 amp fuse, if there is no relay, would only have power when ignition key is in on or ACC. Test that- If fuse has power at all times, there must be a relay. but if fuse only has power in ON or ACC, I would think there is no relay and you might have a broken wire between the fuse and the switch . I am only guessing, so keep looking, if the diagram shows a relay, there could be one.

SOURCE: 98 4Runner rear window no longer operates

Open the rear hatch. Pull off the inner trim panel. Look to see if there is a little box with a bunch of wires connected to it. It may be at the lower edge, driver side. Turn the key on. Test for 12 volts at the solid BLUE wire (there is only 1 solid blue wire) that is connected to the box. Is there power? If not, check the 30 amp POWER fuse. If there IS power, this box may be bad. This is the power window relay for the rear hatch. The wiper/washer and the rear window motor power all come out of this box.
BUT:
Check for power & get back to me before you buy a relay box, there are a few other tests I could share with you before we pronounce the relay box bad...

DS window on 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup is not working. Just replaced the 30a fuse & the window stated going down. Now the other windows work, however the drivers window will not go back up. 30

if there is noise coming from the driver side window is down why you pushing the control button for upwards means the window motor / regulator needs to be replaced. If there is nothing the main control switch for the windows may need to be replaced

Window motor replaced a year ago, now the window is stuck halfway. It will nudge up or down just a tiny bit, but no further

Try scrubbing the dirt out of the channels using a child's toothbrush. If that doesn't work, remove the inner door panel and check for window jumped out of track as a result of door slamming. Also be sure track mounting screw at bottom of tracks is tight and check operation with the panel off to be sure window raises and lowers smoothly without cocking in the tracks.

My power window and door locks fuse keeps blowing.

When the fuse blows figure out what you are doing, what switch is being pressed, then remove the needed panels to access the wiring to the switch and motor it operates, then you will find the damaged wiring and repair the short, no quick fix, just hard grunt work.

2001 olds aurora, no power to passenger side window modules..plugged them into driverside doors they work.. also tried pass. side window motors on d.s and they work fine, any idea on what wire is power....

If the driver window works, the 30A PWR WDO CB and the 10A DRVMDL fuse in the rear fuse block must be OK. The passenger window gets power from the 10A PASS MDL fuse and that should be checked. The rear windows get power from the 10A RRDR MDL fuse and that, too, should be checked. The same circuit breaker and fuses protect the door locks so replacement of the burned out fuses should clear up your problem

1995 buick century power windows dont work, fuse red hot.

First, a 12 volt fuse is fine. It sounds like the window motor winding is shorting and pulling too much current, but not enough to blow the fuse. Unfortunately it sounds like the motor will need replacing. My guess is the radio was thumping becaue the window motor is robbing the radio of voltage/current.
