Leaking radiator from engine cooling line on top of radiator. is there any way to re-seal?

Are you talking about the 2 inch water hose at the top ,or the overflow line about 1 half inch coming out of the radiator cap. If it is leaking from the radiator, replace the radiator, if it is coming out of the overflow, replace the radiator cap. If it is coming out of the top radiator hose then replace the hose

    its coming from the oil cooling line, not the fitting itself, but around the part the fitting threads into. which looks to be theaded into the pastic tank on top, drivers side.

BAD TRANSMISSUION LEAK


Check the axle shaft seals where the two drive axles enter the transaxle. If leaking there the axle will have to be removed to replace the seal.
Look at the bottom pan of transaxle. If leaking from pan gasket, the pan will have to be removed and transmission drained to replace pan gasket.
There is a transaxle main shaft seal on the front of transaxle, hidden by the bellhousing that mounts to rear of engine.. If the shaft seal is leaking, fluid will be dripping from bottom of bellhousing, and when inspection cover is removed, fluid will be evident inside the bellhousing.
Check also the transmission fluid cooling lines, where the two lines exit the transaxle case, and go to front of car to an external cooler mounted in front of radiator, or going into a separate reservoir in the radiator.

CAR OVERHEATING FIRST CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.IF COOLANT LEVEL IN OVERFLOW JUG LOW REFILL ADD COOLANT BACK TO THE FULL COLD MARK.PUT RADAITOR CAP ON COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG START ENGINE LET IT IDLE UNTIL IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.MAKE SURE TOP RADIATOR HOSE GETTING HOT WHILE ENGINE WARM UP.IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE DONT GET HOT WHILE ENGINE IDLING YOUR THERMOSTAT COULD BE STUCK CLOSE CAUSING CAR TO OVERHEAT.IF TOP HOSE IS GETTING HOT.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE FOR LEAKS.CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR CORES AND PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS.IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE, COOLANT FANS NOT COMING ON.COULD HAVE FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR BLOWN COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.COULD HAVE PCM FAULT.MAKE COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND WIRING NOT DAMAGE OR BROKEN.

Transmission fluid & radiator fluid keeps getting low. know approx. where leak is, drivers side front on inside of front tire. would a leak in radiator cause trans. fluid to leak also from radiator?...


Your transmission fluid runs to your cooling system to cool the transmission oil. So, in answer to your question, one of the two transmission lines (one in, bottom and one out, top) could be leaking from the cooling system.

Bring your vehicle in for a cooling system pressure check. Another thing to keep in mind when inspecting leaks is that where you see the leak may not necessarily be where the leak is from. While the leak will drip down, the wind from when you're driving will splatter the leak all over the under-carriage of your vehicle making it look like leaks are happening where they in fact, are not.

New tranny in my 92 ssei now it has tranny fluid in the rad ???????


The transmission and engine are there own entities. Unfortuantly the radiator in some vehicles cool the tranny fluid. Its possable when the coolant lines were disconnected from the transmission or from the radiator, the seal was broken on the radiator where the line goes in from the radiator, so you wont see it because its internal. This will allow trans fluid to enter into the radiator. Be careful with trans fluid mixed with the coolant may cause engine damage. Your solution to the problem if this is infact the source would mean replacing the radiator, if you do this be sure to flush the coolant system to rid trans fluid.

When i crank up my explorer it is pouring transmission fluid stop at a red light an it leaked out a quart of fluid


You won't go far this way. Its cheaper to tow it than replace a transmission. There are a few fluid lines to check at the transmission. Several servos and the speedometer sender are in the case.
They have gaskets and the plastic may crack. The Transmission pan can leak. The fill tube can separate from the transmission.

If the leak is coming from the inspection cover next to the engine, it can be a front seal, and if the leak is coming from where the drive-shaft slides into the transmission housing, that's a tail-shaft seal.

The fluid lines run to the front of the SUV to the Radiator where there are cooling lines going into the bottom of the Radiator. It can leak from a Radiator tank hole because there are 2 separate tanks in the Radiator. Then all you do is replace the Radiator. On some models there may be a separate Air cooled Auxiliary radiator, not to be confused with a power steering cooler.

The fluid lines will rust and need replacing. If you are trying to make a line, there are different flares for the tubing ends. Bring in your bad part to match it up.

I hope my solution is helpful to you. You need to be under the SUV to see anything. Even a quick change lube bay would make it possible to find a leak.

How do i change the thermostat on the four cylinder


If your talking that radiator Thermostat, trace the upper radiator line back to the motor. Where it mounts is actually an adapter plate that is bolted on with 2 to 3 bolts. Remove the Hose, Remove the Adapter from the motor and you should see the Thermostat under that adapter. Toss the old one and insert the new one. Clean the old seal off and put the new seal in place ind mount the adapter, tighten down, reconnect hose fill radiator and test drive for a block of 2 and then check for leaks. If you have any leaks at the adapter tighten the bolts a little more and top off the radiator.

TO CHANGE RADIATOR FIRST YOU TURN OFF RADIO FIRST TO KEEP FROM LOSING RADIO CODE.DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.RAISE FRONT OF VECHICLE SUPPORT ON JACK STANDS.REMOVE THE LOWER SPLASH SHIELDS.NOW YOU NEED TO DRAIN THE COOLING SYSTEM.CATCH COOLANT IN A LARGE DRAIN PAN.REUSE COOLANT IF ITS FAIRLY NEW.IF COOLANT VERY OLD CHANGE IT.PUT OLD COOLANT IN SOME EMPTY CONTAINER TAKE TO A GARAGE OR WHOEVER DISPOSE IT.DONT POUR ON GROUND.HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT.MOVE THE AIR INTAKE DUCT PASSES OVER THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE.NOW WHEN ALL COOLANT DRAIN OUT.LOOSEN UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS.THEN DETACH THE RADIATOR HOSES FROM THE FITTINGS.IF THEY ARE STUCK GRASP EACH HOSE NEAR THE END WITH A PAIR OF ADJUSTABLE PLIERS AND TWIST IT TO BREAK THE SEAL THEN PULL IT OFF REMOVE SMALL COOLANT SURGE LINES FROM TOP OF RADIATOR THAT GOES TO THE OVER FLOW RESERVOIR..DISCONNECT COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR.THEN REMOVE THE COOLING FAN.REMOVE DISCONNECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES GET READY TO CATCH TRANSMISSION FLUID THEN PLUG LINES. Radiator leaks around the top seal


Hi!!
I would take the vehicle to a radiator shop for service, they take apart the radiator and flush and clean every line and put it back together, also, they flush the cooling system and if you want, they replace the thermostat and hoses. I you've never have a cooling system service done to your vehicle. It is time. The cost will be less than just replacing the radiator and your vehicle will run cooler.
When you use a Radiator Sealant, the remains will seat at the bottom of the radiator plugging some lines or clogging the cooling passages and a couple of months later the leak comes back. I don't know any radiator sealant that guarantees a permanent fix and tell you where the rest of the stuff you put in the cooling system went. I don't believe that just dissolves and stays on the system to prevent future leaks.
If the leak is on the metal part of the radiator, if you weld it you'll be ok, but when the leak is where the plastic and metal meet, then the above suggestion will do. If the plastic cover is cracked, just get a new radiator. Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!! 4 thumbs will be fine!!

How do i change a thermostat on a 1996 mercury sable and whre is it located


Thermostat-follow the upper radiator thick hose to the thermostatic housing. Removal & Installation 3.0L (2V) To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the three thermostat housing bolts.
  4. Remove the thermostat O-ring seal.
  5. Inspect and clean the sealing surfaces.
To Install:
  1. Install thermostat and o-ring seal.
  2. Install thermostat housing bolts; torque to 9 lb-ft (12 Nm).
  3. Refill cooling system.
  4. Warm-up vehicle and check for leaks.
  5. Top off cooling system.
3.0L (4V) To Remove:
  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet adapter.
  3. Remove the bolts, the water outlet adapter and thermostat. Discard the O-ring seal.
To Install:
  1. Clean the sealing surfaces.
  2. Install the thermostat with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  3. Refill the cooling system.
  4. Warm-up the vehicle and check for leaks.
  5. Top off the cooling system.
3.4L (SHO) To Remove:
  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Remove battery.
  3. Remove power distribution box.
  4. Remove battery tray.
  5. Disconnect upper radiator hose and place it out of the way.
  6. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet connection.
  7. Remove the two mounting bolts and remove the water inlet connection.
  8. Remove the O-ring seal and thermostat from the water pump.
  9. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
To Install:
  1. If necessary, install a new O-ring on the inlet connection.
  2. Install the thermostat in the water pump and install the inlet housing. Tighten the bolts to 71-106 lb-in (8-12 Nm).
  3. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water inlet connection.
  4. Install the upper radiator hose.
  5. Install battery tray.
  6. Install the power distribution box.
  7. Install the battery.
  8. Refill the engine with coolant.
  9. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens. Check for leaks.
  10. Stop the engine. Allow the engine to cool and top off degas bottle as required to maintain minimum cold fill level.

I have a bad coolant leak, leaks over night while truck is off, leaks when I start it up in the morning, leaks while parked at school during the day. I can't find the leak, radiator is fairly new, hoses...


it's sounds like the water pump it only leaks when it's cold because when the engine is hot the seal in the water pump swells up to seal the leak then as the temperature cools off the seal goes back to normal and allows coolant to go by
