Question about 1989 Mercury Topaz

1 Answer

Owner of this 1989 Topaz states he owned the car for 10 years and not had a problem. The owner does minor maintenance, just enough to keep it alive and running and dependable in town. Owner did mention the gas filter has not been serviced in about 5 years, WOW! Obviously that needs done! One day, as the fall season this year begins to take hold with cooler temps, wet weather, and cold nights and mornings the vehicle begins to exhibit strange symptoms of a problem. While in gear, driving at speed of 25-45 mph hour, the engine will stall. The car must sit from 10 minutes to an hour before it will restart. It may be aggravated by heat and weather conditions, sounds like an electrical problem not mechanical. Check engine light status is off while vehicle runs. No noticeable signs of any other symptoms. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this issue?

You have rightly mentioned the fuel filter.. it can be case of fuel starvation due to rust or dirt in the filter.. The fuel pump may be failing as well since it restarts after cooling down...
good luck

SOURCE: Mercury Topaz loses power while driving, and stalls out

Check fuel pressure. Sounds like a bad pump or plugged fuel filter.

Locked radio 2006 gmc canyon

Most modern cars have a security code enable for the installed radio/cd players. This is an anti-theft device.

The initial documents given to the owner when the vehicle was purchased lists this code and how to reset it.

If you are second owner/original owner who has lost this information, then, you can approach gmc canyon dealer and they will have this code on their server. Normally a free service (I believe).

The security code is lost from the radio whenever keep alive voltage is removed from the radio. i.e. You disconnected or replace the battery.

I hope this helps.

I'm considering buying a 1987 Toyota supra turbo. 81k miles. What major or minor issues can I expect or need to ask owner about ?

If you ask the owner for the faults he has had expect an out right lie as to nothing is wrong with the vehicle. With such low mileage better to ask why he is selling it. I suggest that the seller produces proof that he actually owns the car and is capable of selling it legally. Next take it for a good run ( not around the block) and be critical in listing all noises and problems you find. Next take it to a reputable mechanic for a frank appraisal of the faults and see what he comes up with. Any must do repairs should be deducted from the asking price as you will be stuck with that cost.. Considering the age and the listed mileage I am suspicious that the mileage has been tampered with as most cars average 15 to 25 k per year Be very cautious also because the parts supply for an 87 car has dried up and you will most likely only get second hand parts ( Panels)

I have misplaced my owners manual for my 2008 Mercury Marquis. I don"t know when to have car serviced

Hello fellow Grand Marquis owner...

Here is Ford's webpage for the 2008 Maquis manual, scheduled maintenance, and other owner information:

http://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage&year=2008&make=Mercury&model=Grand%20Marquis

Click on that link (or cut and paste it into your web browser's address bar) and click on the 'Scheduled Maintenance Guide' . This will open a .pdf file for you.

If you need this information again, go to Google and search for '2008 Mercury Grand Marquis manual'. Click on the link that contains 'owner.ford.com' in the address.

You have a very nice car, I hope that you enjoy it for years to come.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

Looking at a 95 rodeo with 115000 mile what can i expect as far as maintenance/tune ups?

Really depends on whether the maintenance has been kept up on it with records and how hard the car has been driven. Hopefully its been taken care of. I'd say a minor tune up. Plugs, wires, oil change. Check and possibly change tranny fluid. It should be good, that engine will go 250,000 - 300,000 miles without much trouble if you take care of it. True story. Hope it helps!
