Not if you keep the same key. If you use the new key, you can bypass the security system using the method here: http://vats.likeabigdog.com/. If you want to keep the new key and keep the ignition part active, you will have to have the key memory erased from the VATS system.

1998 LXi. How do I repair damaged steering column?

Replace the entire steering column. Keep the ignition cylinder though if it's not destroyed, the anti theft system will read the key that goes with it along with the engine computer. They all have to talk to each other in order to start the vehicle. Otherwise you will need the computer to get reprogrammed to go with the new key etc probably through the expensive dealership.

I have a 1994 mercury grand marquis I just got the steering column replaced now car won't start

Is the newer steering column from the same year MGM? If not, the wires may be in a different configuration.

There is a difference in the LS and GS, as well as different years.

Changed steering column in 1995 oldsmobile cutlass with security system. can I reset the key myself ?

you should use the tumbler from your old column.
you can have a bypass installed if you still have one of your old ignition keys, the dealer will have to reprogram your computer to work with a different key.

2000 Buick Century - Replaced steering column with salvage unit with different key, now vehicle wont start, please help!!

The BCM (body control module) is seeing the wrong passkey code. You will have to find out what passkey code is being used in the new steering column you installed them see if the BCM can be reprogrammed for it Some can not be reset.

Will not start

The Passive Anti-Thft System (PATS) in your vehicle prevents the vehicle from being started with the wrong key. Even if the key is mechanically able to turn the ignition lock cylinder, the digital signal from the key must be programmed so the PATS will accept the signal from the new key.
You have a couple of choices. You can change the lock cylinder out with the lock cylinder from the original steering column so the original keys can be used. You can remove the lock cylinder from the new column and have a locksmith re-key the lock cylinder to accept the original keys, then reinstall it into the new steering column. Or you can take the entire vehicle to a professional auto service facility that has the computer equipment necessary to reprogram your computer to accept the new keys.

Where is the electic power steering on 2007 g5 at?

The electric power steering is integral to the steering column. Their are no serviceable parts on this column. I work at a gm dealership and have had to replace many of these columns due to issues. The column itself is around 800 dollars, and unless you are a very experienced technician with all of the tools and an ability to reprogram the theft system after replacement you will need to take it to a dealer. By the way. What kind of problem are you having with your steering??

I have just changed the engine in a opel astra 1.7 dti carvan its isuzu engine and now it will not start at all not will happen when u turn the key

this cars have safety feature on the steering column, there is a signal emitter that works with the key of your car, that will only work with your key on your steering column and it sends a signal to your ecm so you can start your car, so if u changed that engine u must have changed the ecm that does not work with the sistem on your streering column, u need to have reprogrammed your key and signal emitter on the steering column so the signal to the ecm is the right one, u need to take ur car to a dealership so they can do the work
take care, hope this helps
