I have a 1968 cub tractor , it will start and run for a few seconds and die . I noticed my alternative gauge shows it's not charging . Could alternator be the problem ? New coil gets hot too , help

Ive not seen one of these for a long time, its sounds like you have an wiring problem. are the wires brittle or very stiff. as stiff is just as bad as brittle, brittle wires snap and there is no show for it. alternator not working could be there is a short somewhere, i would also check that your battery is not getting damaged as any electrical fault will head the cells in the battery. coil do get hot but would say more warm than hot. i would start at the wiring from the alternator discont the wires and check the feed from the main wire to the battery check it has a connection you can use a meter or a bulb on some wire to check this, but make sure you test the earth as well if using a bulb try on the shell and then the battery if there is bulb light up on shell but on battery check the earth wire to the shell and the link cable to the engine. to test the alternator you will need to use a meter. to test if there is any resistance.

Running voltage is 16 volts. is this to high, poss alternator?

Your voltage regulator should start backing off the charge rate when it gets to 14.5 or so volts,so i would advise you to either replace the regulator [which is in the alternator] or the alternator it's self.A charge rate that maintains 16 volts will boil your battery dry and ruin it and also the acid that boils out of it will remove paint, rot hoses, ruin wiring etc. so do it soon.Hope this helps!

Heater fan dont work all the time on my 94 volvo 960

After some years, the the filters (made of foam) in the HVAC system can become dry-rotted. Debris from the rotted foam, as well as dust, can accumulate in various places within the system. Unfortunately, the motor housing of the blower is one place in which the dust and debris accumulate very well. To fix the problem, you have to remove the cover from the blower, and vacuum clean it. The blower is behind the glove box, on the lower right side.

A word of caution: The fan cage (which looks like a gerbil wheel) can become brittle, over the years. After cleaning out the blower motor, the blower will be able to freely spin at full speed, again. This may be too much for an old brittle fan. If your old blower can't take the force of spinning at full speed, you will hear it break apart inside its chamber. I discovered this, the hard way. After cleaning the dust and debris from my Volvo's blower motor, the blower spun at full speed and the fan broke apart. So, I had to buy and install a whole new blower.

Replace the belts when they are worn and or dry rotted they become brittle and slip. sound is much worse when vehicle is closed. I would also try shutting the A/C off also sometimes the compressor will make a lot of racket if the clutches are shot.
