Question about 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

The Jeep was running fine, then just started shutting off. Then It ran rough and shut off. Replaced the ECU as recommended by a mechanic. Jeep will start up and idle for a few seconds and then run rough and shut off, can tap the gas about 10 times and hold throttle down, run smooth but not get over 1800 rpm's.

Have you checked the crankshaft position sensor. It is on the bottom forward part of the engine, real close to the hub for the fan. It has a wired plug leading to it. It tells the ECU when the number one piston is at top dead center. It needs this signal to stay in time. It sounds like it may be going out.

My girlfriend recently blew the freeze plug located on the back of intake manifold and I believe it was ran very hot. I replaced it and car started but ran rough, so I killed the engine and tried starting...

when a motor has been cooked ( run with out water ) the rings loose tension , the pistons score the cylinder walls, the head cracks or warps and the head gasket generally blows. In mechanical circles , your best option is a replacement motor either from an engineering rebuilding shop or a good unit from the wreckers.

Jeep would start and run fine then shut off. Replaced coil, coil module and wires. Starts right up but runs very rough

Be sure the spark gap is correct and that all wires are connected securely to the plugs and module.

I have a 2004 Jeep GC 6cyl 4WD. My check engine light is on, scanned and got P0203, P0300, P303. Changed the spark plugs, fuel injector #3. Started it up and ran rough, I left it in the garage all night...

codem p 0203 refers to injector 3---circuit malfunction===causes wiring--injector--ECM
chweck for harness connection , bad wire for no 3 injector or corroded pins for no 3 injector in the connection

Shuts off will driving, especially if I hit a bumpy road.

check the wires to the fuel pump if they have rubbed against something and the insulation wore through hitting bumps or rain could cause it to short and kick the relay and resets again and will start

Rough running

Computers aren't ALWAYS correct. If a code wasn't cleared after the original problem, it will read the same codes off to the diagnostic. I would remove the wire connector to each injector while it's running. If one of them makes no difference THAT is your culprit. Let me know please!

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty
