Question about Chevrolet Cavalier

How can I resolve a eating problem. The temperature of the engine is always beetwen 90 and 96 degrees and I think that is ttoo hot for normal routing. Can change the thermostate? or chenge the rediator? Thanks

If it is that low it is running too cold. Typical Operating temperature is 180 to 212 degree. Check your thermostat. If it's not boiling over or your temperature gauge is between the Hot and Cold marks on the dash indicator, close to the center between the two, then your engine is fine.

Please to use a thermometer in the radiator after the engine has run about 10 minutes to test the actual temperature of the coolant.
You may also choose to put a piece of flat cardboard over half of the front of the radiator to see if that makes it heat up more.
The temperature should be about 180 degrees, unless you have added a 160 degree thermostat to the engine, in the which case the radiator temperature should be nearly 160 degrees.
If the radiator shows the proper temperature, perhaps the temperature gauge on the dashboard or the engine block sending unit is defective.

If the cooling system is functional, yes.
The ac condenser adds heat to the air coming thru the radiator when the ac is on. If the engine cooling system is weak, the extra heat will make the engine run hot.
Low coolant flow thru the radiator is a common cause.

The thermostat "seals" the cool coolant giving up (rejecting) heat in the radiator & heater core from the hot coolant absorbing heat in the running engine "block".

When the coolant in the engine reaches a specific temperature (180 ~ 195 degrees) as determined by the value selected by manufacturer or when replaced, it opens and allows the hot coolant in the engine block to be pumped out to the radiatot & heater core for cooling and the cool coolant in the radiator / heater core is pumped into the engine block - replacing the hot coolant. The thermostat senses cool coolant in the engine block and seals shut until the temperature of the coolant in the engine block rises to 180 ~ 195 degrees again. This process continues over and over for as long as needed.

You should check to make sure that the coolant level in the reservoir / radiator is sufficient by checking when cold. Do NOT remove a radiator cap when it is hot! With the cap off, start the engine and add additional coolant as the engine warms up to normal operating temperature. If coolant levels are ok, the trouble could be related to the thermostat or possibly a faulty temperature sending switch. This means that the temperature of the coolant is fine - but the switch or sensor that converts the temperature to a voltage for the gauge on yur dashboard is the problem.

If the temperature is fluctuating up and down, you should have it fixed. Good luck!

CHECK THE THERMOSTAT. THERMOSTAT IS THE ONE THAT SENSE THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND TURNS ON COOLING FAN WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT.

Temp gauge is in normal, 200 degree, range when starting. Within a few minutes of driving goes up to 250, right below orange line. No leaks found, coolant level appears fine. Any ideas?

The temperature gauge fluctuates very close to hot, but only during city driving. While on the freeway, the temperature indicator reads normal. What is your opinion as to the cause and solution to this...


this is normal, the cooling fan of the engine doesn't come on until u are abouut 2/3 of the way to hot zone of gauge, about 225 degrees F. let me kniow if that is the case.

Mazda eunos leaking cold water, engine running hot and smells like burning rubber, temp gage is not showing a problem. Could it be the themosat?


Unless your gauge is faulty you engine probably is not overheated. Any vehicle engine at normal operating temperature is hot. I'm guessing but I bet your normal operating temperature is about 185 degrees. You say it is "leaking cold water". Were you using the air conditioner when this took place? If so that is normal condensation. As for the burning smell I would look at the exaust area to see if a piece of trash has caused it.

YOUR ENGINE OPERATING RATING TEMPERATURE SUPPOSE TO BE 190 TO 200 DEGREES. IF COOLANT SENSOR DEGREES IS SHOWING 190 OR 200 DEGREES IT WORKING.THAT RIGHT.IF ITS SHOWING 60 OR 80 DEGREES IT FAULTY. AND ENGINE WILL RUN POORLY.

My Jeep Cherokee 95 Radiator temperature is always hot


100 degrees f? That is way too cold Either you have the wrong thermostat or it is wide open. 180 degrees is nominal and give you the best performance.. With AC on, expect 190 to 200 degrees. We are talking farhrnheit and not ccelsius, correct?

THE CAR DON'T GET TO THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE


i dont think it needs a waterpump. what temperature thermostat did you put in? unless the fan is running all the time maybe. i would try another thermostat, the engine needs to be at least 195 degrees to produce decent heat.
