1996 pontiac firebird will start up and then it will die . The fuel pump is working.

Well the fuel filter would be an easy choice, but it could be something electrical.
You'll need to figure out if you are missing fuel pressure or spark when it stops running to know how to proceed.

1992 firebird clicks when I turn the key but it won't start it has a brand new starter

I have the same problem, but sometimes my 92 Firebird starts ans other times it clicks when I try starting. I had the starter rebuilt and still have the same problem. Checked wires from battery to starter and it's intact. Any suggestions?

We just bought a '96 firebird, manual 5-speed trans with 96000 miles. The key has a computer chip embedded in it. Occasionally, when I turn the key, nothing happens. nothing. If I am patient, and jiggle...

There are a lot of possibility's here, for sure its NOT the key, they have a lot of issues with the key cylinders on GM cars their are two very small wires that are fragile and brake over time but that will result in a complete no start. I think without being the to test it that you have a starter going bad...

1996 Firebird won't start but all dash & interior lights work.

It takes X amount of volts to click the starter, if the contacts are corroded, it won't click, but it will run the lights. I would check the battery terminals for corrosion, clean them off with a wire brush, check the water in the battery, check the electrolytes with one of them floaty ball things. They work great. Then see what happens. If you have a volt meter, check the battery, you need 12+ volts to start. Hope this helps.

96 Firebird Formula, 5.7 LT-1, 6-speed manual starter problem

Starter Have a friend turn the key to the start position while you tap the starter with a hammer. If the starter is going bad but has not completely failed most of the time it will start when you tap on it.
Ignition switch If the key turnes easily and lights, radio, etc. come on when it is in the on position I don't think it is the switch. Plus if the starter has never been replaced I'd say the chance that is the problem is very high.
