Question about 1983 Ford F 250

1 Answer

I have replaced the usual as was needed anyway, spark plug, wire, dist cap, rotor, belts, booster cyclinder, master brake cyclinder, starting relay but it still does not want to idle. especially when in gear. i suspect it might be out of time but what would you suggest?

Have you tried to clean throttle body out with carb, cleaner. it may have a buldup of carbon or dirt around throttle plate, not letting the plate to close all the way. also check for a vacuum leak in hoses etc.

what about the fuel filter? its usually located under the brake booster where you put the brake fluid in its either under or around that erea somtimes the fuel filter will be clogged also check to see if its getting spark usually you can take the plug out they have a tester for this that you can buy at autozone or checkers or oriellys auto parts store and make sure your getting spark if not it could be bad distributor or cap and rotor check the cap to make sure all the points are there should be 4 or 6 make sure not broken also check the rotar for breakage or rust if its good and is getting spark possible fuel problem with the filter plugged up or possible fuel rail plugged or if you just recently tuned up maybe you have the wrong fireing order need to get a diagram of the spark plug wires if this is all good possible timing belt broke check to make sure the timing belt is good probably do this first so you dont ruin the engine if it is broke

My car will crank over but will not start.

Try some starting fluid spray,If you get no reaction at all you might have a broken or slipped timming belt.
Look inside the timming belt cover housing if you can.
Look to see if the belt is there or if it moves while someone cranks the engine.
Good luck, pls. vote for this answer

When I try to start my car it cranks but won't turn over. The car is flooding itself could that be related to a bad fuel pressure regulator? So far I've replaced plugs and wires cap and rotor its still not...

You may have a bad distributor, remove the distributor cap and check the rotor and the cap, the most common problem is inside the distributor like the control module, or the coil, go to a junk yard or a parts store and buy a dist and replace it ,this sounds like its the problem. hope this helps.

Replace the spark plugs and wires along with a distributor cap and rotor. Be careful to leave the old wires and plug wires connected to dist.cap, just remove dist. cap from the distributor and lay aside with plug wires on it then install rotor then new cap and proceed to replace each wire for cap and spark plug one at a time so you don't mix up the spark plug wire firing order. Cap laying to the side is used for reference purpose.

Did you install the correct plugs, and did you check the gap? Also check all wires again to make sure nothing was pulled off, or loosened by accident.

1992 HONDA ACCORD WILL CRANK BUT NOT START

No spark is uasually caused by a faulty coil or the trigger unit, both are inside the distributor. Get a used distributor fron a scrap yard (about $4o) and replace yours.Remove the dis.cap and turn the engine until the rotor is pointing to fire # 1 cyclinder, and mark the exact position of the base before removing from the block." Do not turn the engine" Install the other Dist. with the base in exactly the same position and the rotor pointing exactly to # 1 cyclinder. Note. Failing to install the other dist.exactly the way you took the first one out will throw the timing out!!!!!
Be doing all of this be sure there is no spark.

Timing on a 350 chey engine

take out number 1 spark plug and put your finger as to block the hole ,have a friend bump the starter till you feel air rush out real fast / called the compression stroke when it does stop and look down the top center for timing marks on the pulley and line them up on the timing cover then place the distributor in place as so the rotor is pointing at the #1 piston location, basically the dr. front corner and start there, timing order is 1..8..4..3..6..5..7..2.. now if you get all these in right 1..3..5..7 are on the drivers side front to back and 2..4..6..8 on the passengers bank front to back and the distributor turns clockwise .good luck hope this helps you.
