Question about 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

My '99 Malibu is shifting hard when it starts to get warm. I've taken to a tranny shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. someone mentioned about the motor mounts? how serious is this? and will it cost a lot to fix?

The shift linkage to transmission may be out of adjustment. on the chevy malibus the tps ( throttle position sensor ) has a big effect on how tranny shifts. check tps first. it is on side of throttle body, at the throttle plate.

i forgot to mention check tps first!!

to test tps, take off connector then use a ohms tester to check. put a lead on top connection of tps and other lead on center contact. move throttle plate slowly, if it jumps at anytime it is going bad. but if the needle on tester does not jump and is smooth. it is ok. move it very slowly!!

I have a 96 Monte Carlo that runs and shifts great when motor is cool. When warm, it my problemstarts shifting hard and trans statrs acting stupid. What is my prob?

Id say ur tranny is starting to go bad. Or it could be a modulator, or ur tranny seal needs replaced. The filter inside could of gotten lose. Iwould just take it to ur local tranny shop dont say ur having issues and get a fluid and a screen change should be like $79.00 and if ur having a bad tranny they will say u have metal or tell u there are issues besides the check up needed. I had a trans am and when it got hot it would slip and when i turned coners its was slipping bad. It turned out being the tranny screen had slipped lose. Guess i was jumping bumps to hard. idk but good luck

My 2004 chevy Malibu 2.2L automatic started making this banging noise everytime I shift from P to R or D. It also jerks when i shift. Then it also makes a bang noise and it jerks real hard when shifting...

First change tranny fluid and filter. Check the tranny mounts and motor mounts. The GM's also have an automatic torque converter clutch circuit that can cause problems just like this.

Just installed used tranny in 99 4.7 it was trying to stall before when putting into drive, now it trys to but it will got into gear. and shifts fine.any ideas. the old one would stall really hard going...

You should have diagnosed the original trans. Would you jump off a bridge if told to? Take it to a trans shop and stop wasting time on something your not familar with. You never install a used trans. Just someone elses junk.

How do i know if my transmission is going out or if im low on fluid? cant seem to find my transmission fluid where would i find it? and what are the signs that my transmission is going bad?

If you know where the oil dipstick is, the transmission dipstick is very similar but closer to the firewall. Engine must be idleing to check tranny. There are normally marks on the stick that read "cold" and "hot". That describes the level of fluid dependant on tranny temp. Transmission fluid should be changed around every 30,000 miles. Symptoms of bad tranny, assuming good clean fluid, are hard shifting, won't shift (i.e.stays in 2nd gear) Or you accelerate and the tranny spins then jerks the car suddenly. An honest tranmission shop can tell.

My malibu stutters when i take off. Acts as if it

check this first, check the tps sensor and make sure airfilter is clean. because a bad tps has an effect on how tranny shifts. if the tps is going bad it will send the wrong info to pcm. if that does not fix it. remove and clean maf sensor. also check plugs and wires,

Transmission wont go into park

Get help, have helper hold set parking brake and hold foot brake, pop shift cable off of linkage bracket on trans, try to shift it by hand. Only starting in N may be broken internals on neutral safety switch.
