Question about 1995 Ford Thunderbird

1 Answer

I have a '95 Thunderbird Lx with a 4.6 L V8 that will sometimes turn over but will not start. It used to be a rare occurance and would eventually start after waiting awhile (sometimes an hour or so) before trying it again. The problem is happening almost daily now. Usually it starts fine in the morning and will not start after work (4-5 hrs later) unless I spray starting fluid in the right front corner near the air intake area. (?) Sometimes I have to spray it more than once. The engine starts turning over faster until it catches. It also happens when I I turn it off after driving short distances so I sometimes leave it running if I'm only going to be a minute. Lately it has not been responding to the spray at all. This morning it almost did for a second. I tried the spray once, then again twice a few minutes later. Am I shortening the life of the engine using the spray? When I stick something in the valve in the fuel line, gas sprays out, so does that mean fuel pump is working? I ran a can of fuel injector cleaner through a tank of gas a few weeks ago and I also bought a new fuel filter to put on. Do I need a special tool to remove the old filter? Any suggestions are helpful. THANK YOU

I had the same kind of problem and if you pull the spark plug wires you'll see big black holds that the spark is going to the side of engine instead of going to plug. Change wires!

check battery volts should be 12.6 volts.if not battery is dead.if battery okay starter relay is bad on fenderwell next to battery or starter it self faulty.if all is good faulty neutral switch to transmission will cause no starter operation.turn off radio before disconnecting negative battery cable.

This sounds as if the (pcm) Powertrain control module has a ground circuit. It will need to be replaced.

My 95 ford thunderbird V8 LX bogs down when i get to the top of a hill and then i can not give it any gas it just jerks.

It is probably the fuel pump which involves cleaning the tank. YOu can also change the fuel filter which will be attached to the line running from the fuel tank to the engine. Usually midway on the vehicle. this is the cheapest thing to try. the only other possibility is dirty injectors

My '95 Thunderbird wil turn over but randomly will not start.

Your crank sensor may be really dirty and can't get a good signal from the reluctor near the balancer. Check the wiring harness to it as well. You may need a new crank sensor.
