Where is the thermastat located on a 89 ford tempo ?

After the car has been driven until warm, say 10 minutes, leave it
running and feel the hoses going thru the firewall to the heater,
there are 2 ,if they are both cold it needs a thermostat.
If one is hot and one is alot colder , it's the heater core.
If they are both hot it's a door on the inside.
Thermostat on the 2.3 (assuming) is at the engine end of the top
radiator hose, front of the head. Easy one

I had the heater core replaced in february 2011 on my 1988 ford tempo, ever since when you place the heater on cool it blows hot in all positions even on vent

The temperature adjusting cable is either disconnected or out of adjustment. You can access this by removing the glove box and reaching through the glove box hole to connect/adjust the cable.

How do you access the heater core?

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

Where is my heater core and what is the best way to access it? Vehicle is leaking antifreeze on to driver and passenger floor.

The heater core is located behind the dash on the passenger side. You can either work on the floor looking up under the dash or remove the dashboard to access it.

I'd have to look at mine but normally by glove box under dash. Find the lines going through the firewall.

Is thermostat goin out?

The exact opposite should be happening...
Are you losing coolant? Perhaps the heater core is leaking when you run the heater and when you turn it off, the water returns to the engine via the heater bypass hose / valve.
Checvk under the firewall on th epassenger side (under the vehicle). Thre may be a puddle of coolant/antifreeze. If so, then the heater core is leaking. replace.
