Question about 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab

1 Answer

'94 Isuzu Trooper, transmission went out, sounded like i ran over something and parts blew out of it. Has 175k miles on it. I was able to drive it home in 4th gear only by holding pressure on the gear shift (manual transmission). And the engine ran so smoothly all the way home, always has. I'm really asking for an opinion - should I put the money in it for another transmission? I know you can't foretell the future but what would you do? I really enjoy driving the old Trooper, love the 5-speed stick, etc. I think rebuilding is out of the question so a used one?

Actually a rebuild is the only thing you can do to it - brand new transmissions/gearboxes are no longer manufactured. But the parts inside are still available.
In your case the shifting arms and the syncros have failed. But, since the car drove home, the shafts and, at least some, the gears appear to be in good working order. To repair it the price will be around $1500. Less if you select a small repair shop in the middle of nowhere.
My personal opinion - keep the truck, you will not find a better car for that money.

cold AFT will not flow well in any clogged filter.

do not let it slip or the clutch packs burn to a crisp fast !

get a full flush and filter. and cross fingers.
ill assume the ATF levels is no low or too high. right>
do not guess at method or guess AFT types. ask. or read the operators guide, in the glove box. if not lost, if lost buy one?

2002 Isuzu trooper will just die sometimes after a mile or 25 miles

Call your local auto parts store(s). Ask if the can perform an OBD2 check. Most auto parts stores that can, will do this for free. The print out will identify problem areas. However, it sounds like a MAF sensor in your case.

Ya sounds like the electric shift solenoid. Problem with electrical. Will not give you a warning. Will go bad in a heartbeat. You can try unhooking plug that gos into the trans and spray electrical cleaner on it. plug back in. Wiggle some wires and maybe find one loose or broken wire or connection and hope for the best. But its probably the tranny with that many miles. Go to Advance Auto Parts they usually scan your car for free for codes. Good luck

I think they put the timing belt on backwards. If your isuzu is like mine, the water pump gets changed when you do the belt, that way you don't have to go back in there, it is a job, not hard, but it takes time. If they didn't get the belt timing right, your cam will be in pieces in 11 miles. Or,,,, they needed something off your car and took it, or,,, the alternator belt is not charging, it will send the dash board into a light show, and a blown fuse will upset the tranny, and the dash board. Hope this helps.

Shouldn't be a problem, they were essentially the same truck. Isuzu didn't change anything until 01 I believe.
