Question about 2004 Suzuki Forenza

1 Answer

Runs rough when cold

My 2004 Forenza automatic runs really rough when I first start it in the mornings. The check engine light flashes for a couple of minutes but then goes out. I already tried tried new plugs and wires but that didn't change anything. There are no codes when I use the OBDII scanner and all systems show ready. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

On start (Especially in Cold temperatures)it is harder for the oil pump to bring oil to the top of the engine, making noise more prevalent .Keep fluids level and oil clean and you shouldn't have to worry.

Runs smooth then runs rough & rough back to smooth running.

If your check engine light comes on get it checked. To me it sounds like an engine misfire probably cause by a coil pack or spark plug wire going bad. The misfire should cause the check engine light to come on maybe even flash if the misfire is bad enough

Check engine light is flashing and car runs rough.

Its either running too rich or too lean, either way have it seen to quickly or engine damage MAY result.

Truck runs rough at start-up in the mornings

If this happens only when the engine is cold or cool, I would suspect a coolant temperature senor that has lost its calibration.
One way to check would be to have the engine controller scanned when the engine is cool then cold.
The coolant temperature should be the same as the intake air temperature. If the readings are not close to one another, change the coolant sensor.
The coolant temp sensor controls the fuel mixture when the engine is cold, normal or hot.
Good luck, let me know.

2004 Suzuki forenza starts when cold, but runs crappy for about 10 min+/- major repairs include new wire, plugs, o2 sensor, injectors cleaned. Was told it needed a new cat, but not sure it would have...

First are you adding antifreeze? The head gasket and the egr plate gasket have been know to leak antifreeze. #4 cylinder the head gasket like to leak and cause a rough engine running when cold till the antifreeze clears out. I don't believe it is the cat causing rhe problem. If it was, it would do it all the time. Don Suzuki tech
