Question about Lexus IS

Open Question

I have a problem with my lexus is200, automatic. It idles at varying revs, but in most cases at too high a rev. And when I drive I feel like I have the cruise control on at most times. I can take my foot off the accelerator pedal and the car will continue at the same speed without dropping. About ½ year ago the car overheated due to a leak on the radiator. I had the cylinder head off, skimmed and put back. I replaced the radiator and got the car working well except for the idling/cruise control problem. Sometimes it idles perfectly for a whole day at around 700 revs. The next day it can be all over the place. I was fortunate to find a second hand throttle body, which I put on, but to no avail. I thought at one time that the sensor measuring the position of the accelerator pedals position was not working properly, so it was not sending a signal to the motor operating the air throttle.

SOURCE: 2000 VW Jetta V5 accelerator/idling problem

these cars are fitted with a fly by wire accelerator pedal that is controlled electronically by the cars computer it is possible that there is a computer problem or the throttle body ( air intake system )or accelerator pedal is playing up.
it is highly possible that the car is doing exactly what you say it is i recommend you take it back to VW and demand that they take a proper look at it you might have to leve it with them for a couple of days and get a service advisor to drive it home so as they can see the problem ocure.
regardles the cars computer should of thrown a code declaring a fault in the system witch should give the tecs some were to start looking.

good luck with this problem if you have any outher questions let me no

SOURCE: high rev problem

this problem I find in alot of 3.4 ltre grand-ams and that is the wiring go to the intake air temp sensor is broken at the connector. the wire will look good but in the insulation it will be broken. just give each wire a tug, if the wire pulls out then that is the broken one.

You need to clean the IAC again and also the throttle valve and bore, use only CRC brand Throttle body cleaner. After they are thoroughly cleaned disconnect the battery for 5 min's and then drive the car in varying condition for a few days. If that doesn't cure the issue you have more serious problems and will need a scan tool to look into the readings from the MAF, TPS and ECT sensors. High idle cold start is normal then slowly dropping after a few minutes. I assume you never had a check engine light. Correct?

My ford contour 2.0L Fi Automatic- can't go more

The vehicle has a rev limiter. Will it rev over 3500 when you drive it? If no, then I would guess that the exhaust might be partially restricted. But the engine computer won't allow you to free rev the engine that high in park and neutral.

Not moving in any gear

Have you checked the High-Low ratio lever.  Half-way between High and Low is a Neutral, so no drive to any axle even if a gear in the main box is selected.
Try locking the differential.  If this gives you drive, then it might be a final drive (half-shaft) failure.
