INSP indicates that your Golf is due for it's next service..... oil change etc. usually it is turned off after 5 years you will need to do a service and have it rest with an ob2 reader/writer. to rested it or have it removed from service.
The "Oil Meter" isn't a level indicator, its a "Pressure" indicator. If it is all the way down that means the engine does not have oil pressure and it will need towed to a service garage for repair.
Hi, have you done a oil pressure check with a guage? If it is low, check the pick up sieve in the sump, see if it is dirty/blocked. If the pressure is good check the the wire from the gauge to the dash cluster for a short to earth.
Before you flush it, check to make sure your oil doesn't have coolant in it. From your description of your coolant, sounds like there's oil in it.. which is indication of a head gasket leak. Have it pressured tested first before doing your flush. Coolant shouldn't be "brown & thick"
Measure your oil at normal operating temp, without the engine running of course. This will give you a more accurate reading once the oil has circulated in the system.
The system works like this:
With the ignition on, the oil pressure indicator light on the dash should come on and flash. Once the engine is started, the light should go out and stay out as long as the engine is running.
If the oil pressure drops below approximately 0.3 bar or 5 psi when the engine is running below 2000 rpm, the light will flash.
If the oil pressure drops below approximately 1.8 bar or 27 psi when the engine is running above 2000 rpm for more than 3 seconds, the indicator light will flash and the buzzer will sound.
If either this two warnings occur:
The engine should be switched off immediately and the oil level should be checked.
on the dash indicators you have 2 butons. one from mileage counter, and one in left for seting time. To reset the servie interval switch the ignition off, press the button from milleage counter and keep it pressed while you turn to right the left button from time setting, while is displayed on the diplay:"service - - -" This is all
for the most part they are under the dash on the driver side give these websites a try www.autozone.com and www.alldatadiy.com if all fails stop by your local dealership in the parts department and they will show you where its located wish you the best michigan Man.
sir, service engine soon is your emissions light malfunction indicator, meaning your car will not pass a smog test. It will not pass inspection in most places either. It can't be reset and stay off till the problem is fixed. Any auto parts store can retrieve the code for you and most like Autozone do it for free, Most common reason for the service engine soon light tends to be an oxygen sensor. But with the code it will lead you to the problem. Hope this helps.
There's one more thing you can try. On a Mk4 VW, you can reset the service indicator by doing the following:
- With the ignition off, press and hold the tripmeter reset button (on the right side of the dash) - Turn on your ignition, wait for all the warning lights to come on, then let go of the tripmeter button - Where your trip distance is normally shown, the display will read "OIL". - To reset the service interval, turn the clock adjust switch (left side) for about 5 seconds. The trip meter display will change to "---" indicating the code has been reset.
You can verify this by turning the car off and on again. Let me know if that worked out for you.
