SOURCE: Have 2002 Mazda Tribute, 64,800

Hi,
I would sure hope so if they were the only one to touch it, but the factory may have to arbitrate this one. You might as well get prepared to fight for this one. Be sure you understand what they mean by oil pan plug getting rough? Put the vehicle on a lift and view the pan/plug area to be certain that it's not damage from hitting a wheel stop/curb. You will look foolish if it was the fault of a careless parking incident. Take a dated picture for the factory, to prove it was not damaged by carelessness.
Glad to be of assistance. Please rate the solution offered - I will learn from your rating
Thank you

SOURCE: dealer said aluminum oil pan was becoming porous 2002 mazda tribu

Not likely. My 2001 Tribute developed a leak at the oil pan gasket about two years ago. I got the gasket replaced, but it was expensive. I would take it to another shop and get a second opinion.

Does the oil pan need to be removed on a 2002 Mazda Tribute V6 in order to replace the timing chain and crankshaft seal?

It does not have to be completely removed but it has to be loosened off so that the timing cover can be removed to get to the chain . The seal is in the timing cover so it is only necessary for the chain.

I was told there are two oil pans on Mazda Tribute 2001 (upper & lower) 4 cylinder manual. I have an oil leak do I replace both?

There are two gaskets, one is between the lower pan and the upper pan, and the second is between the upper pan and the engine. You only need to replace the gasket that leaks. If both are leaking, replace them both. To find out where the leaks are, raise the car, get underneath, and look closely all around the oil pans to see where the oil is coming from. Use a flashlight if necessary. You should be able to trace any leaking oil upward to its source.

The oil pan gaskets are not necessarily the only sources of oil leaks. Check to see if any oil is coming from behind the timing cover, and look for oil coming from the valve cover gasket.

Oil pan replacement for a 2004 Mazda tribute

You can buy an oversized drain plug that will cut new threads. There is no need for replacement of the pan.

Any auto parts store should be able to sell you one.

There is a whistling sound underneath the brake pedal after I press the brake on my mazda 2005 tribute

The last poster is absolutely correct. The Brake Booster is leaking engine vaccuum into the vehicle through the firewall. This is a fairly common issue on older Tributes. There is an updated Brake Booster and Gasket available from Mazda. I do suggest replacing both the booster and gasket but just a gasket may do. Good luck.
