Trailblazer Vacuum Leak

Use an unlit propane torch, turn the gas on and probe around with the engine running. If engine rpm's change at all that's where your leak is.

Vacume leak

You should have your car scanned if it is throwing codes..( check engine light on )....1 of the more common places for a vaccum leak is at the PCV Valve...Check your hose to it and the boot that connects to your intake...While you have it apart clean ur valve with a rag....Another fine tip i learned was to take a propane torch, turn it on (but don't light it) and move it over the vacuum hoses and connections. The engine RPM's will increase if there is a leak and the propane gets sucked in....(with veh running).....

Have you checked for engine vacuum leaks at the intake manifold gaskets and any leaking engine vacuum hoses? Use propane to run this test.

Hi there,
Have you tried vacuum leak test?
What you would need is a common shop propane torch.
How you use.
1. Start your engine.
2.now take the propane torch (Don't light it!!!) crack open the valve.
3. point the valve at each vacuum fitting on the intake manifold.
what your doing is if there is a leak, the propane will be sucked into it.
This will cause the ideal to rise. When it rises you have found your leak.
Also check where the intake meets the head.
If you have a leak it will cause the effected cylinder to run very lean (to much air to fuel mixture) and cause your misfired cylinder.
I hope this help. Give feed back if this helps anyone. Fixya

How do i find the vacum leak on my 1997 ford explorer

The easiest way to check for a vacuum leak is to use a propane torch. With the engine running, turn the torch on but don't light it. Run it over each line and fittings. When you hit the leak the engine will rev up. BE CAREFUL. Propane is very combustable so don't smoke and make sure there is nothing that will ignite the propane, like a spark.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this $10 or $15 would replace all the lines. Get it by the foot at the auto parts store. You need to know the outside dimension when you order. Hope this helps.

My mini van is over 100,000 miles and when I drive sound like the engine run not smooth and the rpm keep go up and down.I wonder if tune up is going to help? Thanks Hong

Needs new spark plugs every year. Even if you have long life plugs, you need to check if they got carboned up. You should also be changing fuel filter, air cleaner, PVC valve.
Listen for intake manifold leak like cracked or loose hose.
Try plugging the EGR, gastank purge valve, or other things that could cause lean mixture.
That is not many miles.

Propane test on eng.

Your mechanic did a good test by externally adding more fuel to the engine. The fact that the addition of the extra fuel to the engine changed the engines behavior would suggest he is on the right track.

I'd look for a vacum leak if the check engine light is not on. A good trick for this is while the engine is running take a propane torch, turn it on but dont light it. move it around in the engine compartment and when you get close to the vacume leak the engine will rev higher.

Changed o2 senser the rpms are running high. dosent feel like trans. it changing gears, can go 40mph but runs at 5rpms

Look for a vacuum leak around the engine. you can do this with a propane torch, NO FLAME, just the gas will change the way the engine runs when you get near the leak.
