You might have a broken timing belt, you can remove the timing cover and see if the top gear is turning when you try to start it. I would check for spark at the end of the spark plug wires with a spark tester. I would check to see if it's getting gas, you can spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it'll try to start, if so, the fuel pump, relay or fuse is bad.

yes, it could be the timing belt. remove the top timing cover and inspect for a broken belt or large cracks in the belt, what happens is the belt get dry rotted and stretches causing the belt to jump teeth.

i hate to say this but you may have broken your timing belt, and thats real bad on a honda. just loosen the valve cover bolts and remove the plastic top cover over the belt and see if the belt moves then cranking the engine, i hope for your sake this isn't the case because hondas are equipped with an interference engine which means when the timing belt goes the valves hit the pistons

I have oil in the air filter on a 1997 Civic and it won't start

Check your timing belt.Take the distributer cap off and see if the rotor turns when you turn the engine over. If it doesn't, your belt is broken. But it may still be turning and just out of time. Use a timing light to see if the timing mark stays in one place or if it jumps around. If it jumps, it has slipped. Did it backfire when it died?
