A lean condition can be caused by too low pressure to the fuel injectors causing a lean condition where there is not enough gas being supplied to the combustion chambers.

It can be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor or sensors which control fuel delivery.

It can also be caused by dirty clogged injectors that don't deliver enough fuel no matter how long the pulse width is from the computer for one or more injectors.

A lean condition can cause poor engine performance and backfiring.

97 ford expedition has a code 171 and 174 bank 1 and 2 lean what do i do to fix this

Code 171 and 174 are for bank 1 and 2 running too lean. The engine has compensated as rich as it can go, and it is still to lean. This does not necessarily mean your mixture is bad, but something (a sensor) is telling the ECM to correct lean. The oxygen sensors alert the ECM to how lean/rich the exhaust is, and then the ECM trips a code. Maybe you have a bad oxy. sensor, but since there are 4 of them (2 per bank), I don't think they could all go at once.

Can you explain code P0172-P0171-P1405

From what I read, means fuel is lean Bank 1 and 2, you need to clean or replace your Mass Air Flow Sensor.

1997 ford expedition 5.4 reading lean on code scan i changed egr valve and egr pressure valve

Check this thoroughly for vacuum leaks. Ford uses 90 degree elbows that collapse and create major vacuum leaks. This is usually the reason for lean codes and mass air flow sensor codes.

Why is my 1997 expedition showing a misfire on number 2 cylinder OBD code PO302. Also I am getting code readings PO174 andPO171 system to lean on Bank 1and 2

PO302 is being a misfire, could mean the plug is bad or the coil is bad for that cylinder. Which can give you the misfire reading and the system to lean codes. Check the #2 coil for firing.

Service engine soon code p0174

PO174= system too lean Bank 2. Good chance oxygen sensor acting up, may need replacement. If it's 4.6L, that's driver side of engine.
