If it is just the switch probably less then 1/2 hour to repair it the pigatil needs replaced a bit longer due to splicing the wires together and the replacement pigtail not being color coded so great care and attention must be applied when doing this as too not mix up your wires. If pigtail is required after you cut the wires save that pigatil so you can match which wire goes where and sometimes the replacement pigtail has an additional wire. The dimmer switch is located on the left side of the dash where you adjust the brightness of the dash lights. This is your dimmer switch.
1Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) switch trim plate using a small flat-bladed tool.
3Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switches.
4If required, remove the bulb from the IP lamp dimmer switch using a small flat-bladed tool, turning counterclockwise.
5Disengage the retainers on the fog lamp dimmer switch.
    6Remove the dimmer switch.
7Install the dimmer switch to the trim plate by pressing into place until fully seated.
8If required, install the bulb into the IP lamp dimmer switch using a small flat-bladed tool, turning clockwise.
9Connect the electrical connectors to the switches.
10Install the IP switch trim plate by pressing into place until fully seated.
You should be all set after that.

Why they tied them together like that I am unsure but it should take care of both issues. You probably don't have any parking light/sidemarker currently working either.

Where is the tail light relay located on a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis GS? My tail lights and parking lights do not work and I have checked all my fuses.

if it was just your brake lights i would say its the brake switch. if you have checked all light fuses next step would be checking the bulbs. if bulbs are good check continuity with a test light.

i would check the fuses, and then all of the connection to the bulbs , to make sure that there is not corrosion, or shortage in the wires.

My brake lights work, signals work but the running tail lights won't.changed bulbs checked fuses.

check the fuse box in the engine compartment. There is a 15 amp fuse there for PARK LPS and there is also a relay. If you want to check the lights switch, you can interrogate the relay socket.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check . Please let me know if you have questions.

Horn only works some time === right rear taillight same thing.

Hello Sir

It seem that you are facing some loose connection problems. Do check the following possibilities:

Make sure that all the fuses and relays are properly installed and intact. (Fuse box is located under the hood or underneath the steering wheel room).

Make sure that the positive terminal of the battery is properly installed and didnt have any carbon.

The connections to the horn and tail light are properly connected. (There might be some loose connections).

If all of these techniques does'nt works, you need to change the horn relay or the horn.

Regards,
Waqar.

In the fuse box there will be those black boxes, they are called relays, there will be one of them for the flasher. You could swap this with a known good one (AC or something) and see if that helps your problem
