Question about Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

Rebuilt 3.5 lt trooper, obd2 shows p0206, p0306 codes. Have been chasing down vacumn leaks in the vacumn hoses and think I have found all the bad hoses. Sprayed carb cleaner every where to check intake gasket, appears ok. Misfire appears to go away with WOT. Misfire appears mostly under a load. This thing runs with misfire on #6 cylinder until the engine warms up, then runs fine, Put in a new injector in #6. Also changed out the coil on #6. Could I have fault in the harness?

Most likely the connector, but could be the harness. Sensitivity to temp indicates a connector pin that is slipping back in the connector. Check the connector at the injector and also at the computer. Check to see if the wire is pushed fully into the back of the connector.

SOURCE: misfire and rough idle

It may be the Ignition module. This is the little thin circuit card that tells the Coils to fire. Trace the small electrical wire from the 1,3 coil back to this module.

hey thanks for bringing me up to speed. ive been working on many other problems but with your great explanation i remember.
we need to check the compression on that cyl. and compare it to the compression on 2 other cylinders your choice.
but before you do this get a can of carb cleaner . and with the car idling spray around the intake manifold in the area of #6 cyl. what we are looking for is a small vacuum leak that would also act like this. with the engine idling and spraying around the intake the engines idle sould not change and if it does when you spray you have an intake leaking.
let me know how it turns out.

SOURCE: I have a misfire on cylinder #2 DOHC 3.0 Tuarus 2002

I would also check the front pulley as this is what is used by the crank angle sensor to tell the computer when to fire which coil pack .If the sensor or pulley is damaged it can cause random or continuous cylinder misfires.
Make sure the pulley is tight on the crankshaft at that the rubber in between the inner and outer parts of the pulley is not damaged or slipping.also check for any signs of rub damage on the back of the pulley. When the aircon compressor springs into action it places extra load on the crankshaft pulley.Hope you follow.
Let me know what you see.
Hope this helps.......

did you reset the codes first after new parts>???????????
misfire #3 and 6( repeats)
that is because misfire has 3 causes.
those codes really mean , Low combustion energy.!!!
and that is:
1: spark bad, ?
2: fueling wrong to those 2. (injectors or vacuum leaks)
3: compression weak on those 2.?

see?
the ECU measures the velocity of the crank shaft, (not speed) rate of velocity, and those codes, mean its slow.
too slow means its. weak combustion.
only
new plugs and coil. so....
i do compression first. just hate chasing my tail.
then check for no vacuum leaks near #3 and 6 (injector base gaskets)
then do a injector balance test with my pressure gauge.

the injectors can be clogged, , partial clogged or leak fuel.
they can leak air at the base.
i check plenum vacuum too for 19" Hg vacuum steady never bouncing. if it bounces head valves, bad, or ?

Where is vacumn hose in 2003 ford expedition

There are many. If you suspect a leaking vacuum line, spray small amounts of starter fluid around hoses under the hood and listen for engine revving. When the engine revs, you've found the area for the leaking line

get the OBD2 codes read to determine what (and how many) errors are being reported by the check engine light. Most auto parts stores will do this for free, and decipher the codes, sell you the part too!

Intermitent check engine light code p0300 pending. 2011 Travese LTZ

P 0300 : Random Misfire. That means the computer detected a misfiring at one the cylinders and usually its gives you a number after P0300 like P0301 or 2 or 3. And the numbers show what exact cylinder is having the problem. By the way your car is under warranty still and i would really recommend you o call the dealer and Claim your problem and they should scan it and fix it for free. Hope this helps and Good luck

Have a code p0401 how do u fix it , I know it has something to do with the egr system but I,m not sure where its located on my trooper, engine size is 3.5 v6

I have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper that had a PO401 code that would reset and then 2 miles later the light was on again - I found if you remove the EGR valve and start the engine that the engine should idle rough - If it doesnt and you have vacumn at the intake port spray carb cleaner down the port slowly and see how long it takes for the engine to run rough - Keep spraying till the engine dies and spray some more down the passage and let the engine set for 5 minutes and then restart the engine - it will run rough at first but clear out - you should be able to feel the engine RPM change when you put your finger over the intake vaccumn port for the egr - If not then repeat the cleaning method again - If you do feel the rpm change then put the egr valve back on and clear the code and run your drive cycle to see if it is fixed.

P0306 code

Perhaps the compression guage u used has a defective schrader valve, if the compression was that low it would run bad, and mileage would not be 19 MPG. Glad to hear all is well.

STARTS HARD. CODE 300 MULTIPLE MISFIRES. 141K MILES

My first thought without viewing the codes is a camshaft sensor, But I will get back with code description. But thinking further, if your alternator has a bad diode or regulator and you battery goes dead, and you are certain your battery is ok, then it would have to be something like that, and the code is because your loosing power as your battery drains.

(1) have battery checked
(2) Alternator checked!
(3) an easy way to check is disconnect battery and see if it goes down. If it doesn't, then check alternator next.
(4) bad coil packs or crank sensor, vacumn leak, bad hose or disconnecter.
(5) bad wires.

Hope one of these helps. It is hard to diagnose this problem online.

Heat works sometimes but is only warm

One will control the heater core valve, one will control the deflector door and one is problem vacumn in from intake manifold. If the vacumn motor that controls the valve or the door is leaking you would have this problem. Also if vehicle is low on anti-freeze you could have this problem, Hope this helps! The vacumn motors are easily checked by take a small piece of vacumn hose and intstall it on each one and applying suction by mouth, if they leak you will not be able to make them retract or they will leak down after you pull them in.
