Kia Carnival v6 2600 developed massive oil leak suddenly, near timing pulley, any suggestions?


There is a seal behind that pulley, pressure wash all the oil that has leaked out and run it and see if that seal is the source of the leak or it is coming from somewhere else. You need a completely clean engine to find an oil leak

If it's behind the pulley wheels it could be the crankshaft oil seal myself I would remove the timing belt cover and see if you can see it leaking

Oil leak Chrysler Pacifica 2005


I take it you are talking about the pulley on the crank shaft This will be a timing cover crank seal and can be replaced after removing the pulley. Not a big job if you are mechanically minded but other wise take it to a qualified mechanic or dealer.

Are you sure it's not leaking from up higher like where the valve cover sits right behind the cam gears? Have you pulled the timing cover to see if this is the case?

1988-1993 ford festiva leaking oil around the crank pulley... could the oil be coming out of timing chain seal... are could it be a the seal on the crank shaft.. if so would i need to removle the engine to...


This sounds like the crank seal, the engine doesnt have to be removed, in order to get to seal is like replacing the ttiming belt, and once in the timing belt i would replace the crank and cam seals, also do the timing belt, and maybe the waterpump, you will need to remove the crank pulley and then the timing covers then align timing marks for timing belt before ou remove it, with timing belt off the crank pulley then slides off the crankshaft and the seal is behind it, the cam shaft gear unbolts and the seal is behind the gear, once the gears are off then you will be able to remove the seals from the engine,heres a few diagrams to help. good luck and i hope this is helpful,60d826b.gifca916fa.gifcb2cb5a.gif

oil pan gasket is on the bottom, the one behind the crank pulley is the front crank seal

R & r info. on front seal and crankshaft seal. Car is leaking lots of oil up to two quarts per day


Front crank shaft oil seal is located behind the crank shaft pulley (A.K.A. the harmonic balancer). If you look from under the car at the bottom pulley on the engine. It will be very wet and oily. This is not an easy job to replace the seal for the inexperienced.

I dont know where the oil pump is on my 89 toyota


On a 22RE the oil pump is on the timing cover behind the crank pulley/harmonic balancer,it has the crank timing pointer built onto it,generally they don't leak around the pump seal but as Monster80 pointed out they leak from the front main seal wich is installed on the front of the oil pump,pretty common for the 22R/RE to leak around the timing cover gaskets or out the bolt holes on the timing cover also,usually due to uneven tourqe on the bolts,to check the front main seal you need to look at the the crank from the underside right after you've shut the motor down,if the seals bad you'll see oil starting to form a drop on the backside of the pulley or the front of the oil pump housing.

Being it is a 97 outbac, I believe you have the EJ25 Duel over head cam Boxer motor, Very good motor. If i am correct you have 5 places that most likely could be the leak. THe crank pulley, in center, Or either of the 4 cam shafts. You will have to look for more signs of the leak. If leaking from the cams you will usualy see the oil on the iside of the pulleys them selves. The crank seal on the other hand generally runs down the center of the block.Please be very careful to check your timing marks on your pulleys before you start it, due to the belt posibly slipping from what you had said. The crank has a small hash line that points up to a mark in the block The top pulleys on both sides have a sigle line that points to a notch straight up on the cover and double lines that point straght down at double lines on the lower pulleys. And the lower pulleys also have a single line that point to a notch outward that is on the cover. Hope this helps and have a good day.
