Question about 1990 Toyota Camry

What do I need to do if my overhead dome light does not work and the bulb has been changed often even though the bulb was not burnt out. I cannot get it to work at any of the 3 positions more than 4 days.

Remove the lens cover. take out any screws (then "pop" it out if necc) and lower the light fixture itself. use a simple test light or volt meter to check for 12 volts to one of the wires when switched to the "on" position. if you have volatge replace the fixture. if not, trace the wire back to its switched source. check any wire at each end for continuity with an ohm meter. any reading besides 1.0 (open circuit - a shorted circuit would be blowing fuse repeatedly) is ok. the circuit goes downstream from battery feed at the fuse box, to relays and/or fuses, then on-off switches (including door closed switches) then the feed wire to the dome light, the fixture itself, then the bulb. wiring diagrams with color coding are almost impossible to get off the net for free. you'll need a $20+ repair manual if it goes that far. but cheer up, 90+% of the time it's the fixture. a quick and easy fix.

Sounds like the switch is going bad. you can get them on Ebay pretty cheap. The lens snaps off and the whole thing is removable by taking the screw out that holds it in place. Unplug it and plug in the new one. Easy to do, just be careful. Everything is plastic. Don't be forceful, or something will break.

Ford taurus tss 2004 map lights work but dome light wont come on

It is possible the bulb in the dome light is burnt out or there is a bad connection @ the bulb. That is at least where you start. you will need to remove the dome light cover & wiggle the bulb while the door is open, or best to have two doors open to remove the possibility of a faulty switch. If it still doesn't flicker or start to work remove the bulb & inspect it to see if the filament is broken. If you can't tell best to replace the bulb & try again.
Please advise if you need more help.

Dome light short

... Sorry to hear about this.
Have you checked all the fuses; to see if they are good?

I would start with checking all the fuses, the dome light bulb and burnt wires. (burnt wires will smell) If you didn't smell plastic burning while hooking up the DVD player, then you're okay. But check anyway.

If you can't solve the problems, call the Toyota service department for help. They may be nice and give you some help.

Good Luck!

Deivers tail light/brake light do not work..reverse works..when i lock my car the lights flash except for that one and the drivers light..headlights work fine though.drivers headlight bulb connector looks...

Could be a broken wire at the socket. Sounds like a burnt bulb also. Sometimes a burnt bulb will do the same thing as you are describing. Once you get this fixed, all should work. If flashing to quickly, replace the flasher stat unit!

Dome light

The wire that runs to the dome light runs along the carpet retainer on the floor of the driver door opening. It then runs up the "B" pillar and over to the dome light.
Have you checked the bulb and the presence of voltage and ground at the dome light socket?
I would start there first before tearing anything apart and make sure all is good.
Let me know.

There shouold be a fuse in the fuse panel for this, or you may possibly have a faulty door switch that activates the dome light. Hope this helps
