Question about 1992 Jeep Cherokee Briarwood

1 Answer

Starting problem I replaced a fuel pump, fuel filter within the last week. The pressure is where it should be on the injector rail. But I am experiencing a hard grinding while it is trying to start. Any suggestions. PS. I also checked the fuel regulator and that is okay. HELP ! Do you think it could be a crankshaft sensor ? I can here the fuel pump priming.

If the hard grinding noise is a metallic sound only when you start it, sounds like your starter bolts are loose or the starter itself needs replacing. fuel pressure doesnt cause any particular noises like that. If your fuel pressure or pump had problems, your vehicle simply wouldnt start

Check or replace fuel filter again. You could have had a lot of sediment in your tank. If it ran good for a week, that's where you need to start figuring out what was replaced during that time. If you can, check fuel pressure at schraeder valve on fuel rail.

I have a 2000dodge Dakota quad cab 2whl DRV. 5.9ltr v-8 within last 9 months replaced fuel pump, filler cap, injectors, map sensor, tps, coil, plugs, wires, transmission filter, rear end fluid and cover,...

It's possible the fuel pressure regulator is not operating properly, or the fuel pump relay is an issue. Slim possibility the fuel pump
wiring you did is a little off. I don't see that you replaced the fuel filter or filters, could be blocking fuel flow to or from fuel pump.

Fuel rail pressure problems

The injectors may have gotten dirty from changing the fuel pump and filter. Also check for water in the fuel system. It may not be fuel related at all.check plugs ,coils ,wires to see if they need replacing. Hope this helps.

Crank tolong before it start

First check your fuel pressure regulator by pulling the vacuum line off and check for fuel there should not be any. Then start the car and with a pressure gauge hooked up to fuel rail pull the vacuum line off the pressure should rise 5-10 psi if it does'nt replace regulator.Next check the fuel pressure it should be 41-47 with key on and engine off if not within specs replace fuel pump.

Just replaced my dirty fuel filter last week, after replacement its noticed in hard restarting for almost 1 day used. For the second day in the morning I started my Starex CRDI 2005 model and won't start...

well if the fuel filter was plugged it has already caused damage to the fuel pump, first thing you need to do is check to see how much pressure is getting to the fuel rail, then check the volume, if this is all ok then you may have a dirty injector... if not look at your pump itself.

Good Luck

Low fuel rail pressure, warning light on dash on! (so i have been told!) any ideas what could be wrong and where to find the fuel rail?

the fuel rail is on top of the engine. look for the injectors the rail is the metal fuel line that supplys fuel to all the injectors. you can also find a fitting on this rail that a pressure gauge can be screwed onto. it should have a black cap on it. kinda looks like a valve stem like for the tires. but you may have a faulty pressure regulator. a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. replace pump last. it will be more expensive.
