Hi! The fuel pump relay surely is faulty that's why it is on all the time. The relay can be grounded and will surely require replacement. Open the hood and check the relay box. Pull out the fuel pump relay and replace. Hope this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!

Hi!!Replace fuel pump relay ASAP, it is stuck open and the pump will be damaged. It is located on the engine compartment fuse box. Disconnect negative cable from battery in the mean time.
Good Luck!!

  • Rene J Solis Oct 09, 2010

THIS IS A PIC. OF THE RELAY

Did you find the fuel pump relay?

  • Rene J Solis Oct 09, 2010

Did the pump stopped when you removed the relay?

  • Rene J Solis Oct 09, 2010

Let me get yo a wiring diagram, give me a few.

  • Rene J Solis Oct 09, 2010

Fuel is supplied to the injector(s) through an electric fuel pump assembly which is mounted in the vehicle's fuel tank. The ECM module provides a signal to operate the fuel pump through the fuel pump relay and oil pressure switch.

f the fuel pump did not run or system pressure did not reach specification, locate the fuel pump test connector. The connector is usually found on the driver's side of the engine compartment (on or near the fender), with a single wire (usually red) leading from the relay to the connector. Using a jumper wire, apply battery voltage to the test connector in order to energize and run the fuel pump. The pump should run and produce fuel pressure of 9-33 psi (62-90 kPa). If the pump does not run, check the relay and fuel pump wiring.

if the diagrams are clear, do you think you can rewire the relay to work with the ignition switch?? You said that the pump stops when the relay is off.

1991 ford bronco fuel pump wont shut off

The fuel pump should turn on for about 3-5 seconds when you turn the ignition switch to on. If the engine starts the pump should still continue to run, if you do not start the vehicle the pump will shut off. It sounds like your fuel pump relay is stuck. Sometimes they will stick on even with the key off. The relay should be located in the relay box, under the hood on the drivers side on the inner fender well. You can try tapping on the relays with a end of a screwdriver, etc. See if that does anything for you. If that doesn;t help I will have to look up some info. Been a while since I had issues with that .

Fuel pump wont shut off turn key on it comes on to pressurize then it wont shut off but there are no leaks

There is an oil pressure switch in parallel with fuel pump relay, if that switch is closed, the fuel pump will run all the time. Click on the link. At the fuel injectors, top wire is voltage, bottom wire is ground. If there is no ground, both wires will have voltage. Make sure battery has a full charge.

Ford explorer 98 is the fuel pressure supposed to be constant even if the caar wont start

If you turn the key on it will be constant for as long as the pump is
running.

If you get no crank signal it will time out & pump shuts off

My Lincoln LS is not like that- it runs but at different speeds
from a driver in the trunk module, more complicated than yours

My 1993 nissan sentra 1.6 wont run and check engine light wont turn on,bulb is ok

Could be any of several things. If the crank sensor is marginal and not sending pulses, the fuel pump is shut off. This is for safety. The pump is energized for a few seconds as key is turned in preparation for starting then engine must rotate normally to keep the pump on. If it stops, in a few seconds the fuel is cut off.

97 f350 5.8 disconnected fuel line from tanks to inline filter turn on key pump runs momentarily then shuts off only supplying small amount of fuel from either tanks

Generally speaking, its supposed to do that.
The fuel pump(s) is powered by a relay that turns on for 3 seconds when you turn the key on. If the engine does not start and produce oil pressure, thats all the power the pump gets. If you were in a wreck the pump would shut off when the engine dies even with the key on to prevent a fire.
You would need to jumper the relay to make the pump run beyond the 3 second time.

My LHS wont start... if I ran out of gas-- did I mess up the fuel injection? I cant get it to start...

Turn on the key and listen for the pump to run for 5 seconds. If it does, repeat this process about 5 times.
spray starting fluid in air intake too.

2002 blazer crank but wont start

2 things that you have to check on no starts every time. Spark at spark plug and fuel. Turn key to run position and listen at gas tank for fuel pump to run you should hear a whining noise. This will only happen for 3 to 4 seconds then it will shut off until engine starts. You can turn key off then to run every 3 to 4 to listen for fuel pump. You may hear the relay click off in engine area even if pump does not run. Fuel pump failure is pretty common. If pump is running pull spark plug out or put a spare plug into spark plug wire and have someone crank engine set plug on engine and watch for spark. This will give you a starting point. Hope it helps.

99 gmc wont start

check electric fuel pump operation ( located in the fuel tank ). Occasionally a fuel pump will burn out when running out of fuel, due to the fact the pump runs DRY for about 30 seconds till the fuel stops flowing out of the injectors, the engine quits, simultainously losing oil pressure which FINALLY shuts off the fuel pump. Sometimes TOO LATE. Hope this helps

The fuel pump will run for a short time when you turn the ignition key on to prime the line then waits until the engine is running. Check the fuel filter and replace if plugged then check the fuel pressure should be abouve 27 psi

I have a 95 Maxima I changed the fuel injectors and now the car wont start.  so i put the old injectors back and it still wont turn over,  It stay on for about 2 sec can anyone help me

I assume you bled off fuel pressure before you installed the injectors. Try this to pressurize the fuel system. Turn the key to "on" position and wait 5 seconds. AT same time, listen carefully for a buzz sound that means the fuel pump is running to pressurize the system. It will shut off after 5 seconds. Then, turn off the key and wait 30 seconds for the computer power relay to shut off. Then, turn the key to "on" again. Thsi will run the fuel pump for another 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times. Fuel system should be pressurized now.
If it doesn't start now, you may have done something while you were changing the injector. good luck
