Question about 2001 Mazda MPV
Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . The thermostat is on the front of the engine by the drive belt. Sorry I do not have a picture, but the thermostat is inside a housing that is held on by 2 or 3 bolts and has a heater hose connected to it.
NOTE The thermostat is indexed and must be installed correctly.
NOTE Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.

Find the hoses that leave your radiator.
Trace the top hose back to your engine.
Locate the thermostat housing attached at the end of that hose. Verify the location in your owner's manual, as some manufacturers house the thermostat at the bottom of the radiator rather than the top. This makes removal far more difficult.
