Question about Ford Explorer Sport

3 Answers

Looking for jsmes1027 i have a 97 explorer sport 6cyl OHV. I am trying locate a CPS because Ive been advised this is probably the solution for my no start problem. The dealership is asking for $136 for part #F0TZ6CV15DA. Online parts houses are asking from $17.50 to >$100 but most of the photos shown are different and the part numbers dont match even though the sub models are the same. Can u tell me what this part looks like, where is a good place to purchase it or where its located on the motor so I can look myself?

The 4.0L engine MY 1997 Ford Explorer 6 cyl. OHV use a separate Camshaft Position Sensor - CPS mounted to the oil pump drive. The drive assembly is located toward the rear of the engine.

Your CPS is absolutely different regarding to the CPS installed on the 4.0L SOHC engine (VIN E), where the Camshaft Position (CPS) sensor is a variable reluctance sensor, which is triggered by the high-point mark on the left-hand camshaft. It is mounted to the valve cover.

On the 4.0 L OHV engine, the camshaft position sensor CPS is at the back of the engine,on top of the engine block, where the distributor used to be installed on the older versions. According to Haynes repair manual.

Hello! Every problem has a solution...The auto parts store you are using does not have an AirTex part...Instead they rolled over to a Motorcraft Part # (OEM) DU57...The problem is an error in the crossover...Both the "E" and "X" engines are included and need to be split by shaft length...Confusing??? Absolutely...The one that your vehicle uses is the 123mm shaft length...
This part is $65...Also do you have the correct procedure to install the CPS? It is a difficult job and if not done correctly, engine damage will occur...The bottom line is this...The correct part # is Motorcraft DU57 w/ 123mm shaft....I would recommend, if you have not done so, purchasing a repair manual...

Here is picture of the correct part.....Saailer

Hello I sent an e-mail address to you...In the link you sent for ebay the year specified is 2004...Since the beginning you have specified that your vehicle is a 1997...Is your vehicle a 1997?

Also, you have been asking for a CPS (Camshaft Positioning Sensor)...In the link you sent for ebay, the part specified is a Crankshaft Positioning Sensor (CKP)...

All part #'s and pictures I have sent are for a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport CPS (Camshaft Positioning Sensor)...

We have been having a problem because of the year and the part name...Here is a Crankshaft Positioning sensor for a 1997 explorer...AirTex/Wells # 5S1759....
