A starter freeze-up would probably give forth much smoke from the wiring and the starter motor itself. You need a test light or meter to check for power at the starer solenoid. Check from ground (engine block) to the terminal that connects to the positive battery cable (should light). If nothing, check the battery terminals for corrosion (use a special battery cleaning brush from your auto parts store --cheap) and check the cables near the terminals for excess wire corrosion. Recheck for power at the solenoid again--it should now give light (meter read 12.6 volts). Try the starter again--if only hear a 'click', test at the starter motor terminal for power when the key is turned. If you get light, then the starter motor is defective (likely a bad brush or spring) and should be removed for repair or replacement. If you got no power at the starter terminal, then replace the solenoid. Hope this helps!

I hooked up the jumper cables wrong to a Mini Cooper 2005 and it wont start. What should I do?

load test the battery. Test the alternator with a multimeter, it should read between 13.3 and 14.6 volts dc. Test the alternator at idle and rev the engine to 2000 rpm. The multimeter probes are place on the battery terminals. Look for corrosion between the battery and the battery clamps. Baking soda cleans the corrosion.

Tapping black box to shut off fan under bonnet

it sounds like sensor or relay is bad. should replace it. if it fails completly the fan may not come on at all, which would then cause the car to over heat and could cause head to crack.

dont think so but?' i would suspect the pump has had this old fuel and its stuck the vanes in the pump up ,on the fuel rail is what looks like a tyre valve ,push the valve head in and see if the petrol squirts out ?? if it doesnt then remove the pump and clean it out ,also check it manualy away for the vehicle with a battery (hot wire it )

I have a 2003 mini cooper R50, I have bought a replacement electro hydraulic power steering pump since the old one died. I noticed that the wiring that is connected to the power steering unit is burnt and...

You need to goto a good parts store or the Cooper dealer and simply buy the new Pigtail Connector for that particular unit. It will give you a new plug, and the wires long enough for you to splice to the old wires and be on your way.

I parked the car for 4 months killed the battery got a new battery installed by mini dealer but the remote key wont work

MINI owner's manual warns against leaving the car sitting for long periods of time without disconnecting the battery. IIRC, you will have to have the remote "reprogrammed", as the memory for the remote function is reset from lack of power.
