Dexcool is garbage you shouldn't use it at all prestone is best for all cars just remember to flush it and change it every 2-3 years

No leak and 2003 nissan xterra smell like anti freeze check radiator, water pump.hoses.heater core.anti freeze level in radiator is perfect

If you can smell, then you have a leak,if the heater core has a pin hole, then the box that houses it will hold the antifreeze to wear you won't see any, have to take the box apart and see, check your hoses going thru the firewall to see if there leaking.

Will putting conventional anti-freeze in a gm that require dexcool make car run hot.

Well conventional green and dexcool are not supposed to mix right. So you could be in trouble when the weather gets cold, but I doubt it would make an engine run hot.

Pontiac grand prix gt 3800 dexcool leak

Do you see the coolant leaking on the motor? From the drivers side, you can inspect the intake manifold...unfortunately as good as this motor usually is known for leaking at the intake manifold...and requires a new intake gasket...DO NOT USE dexcool after the replacement...many teams believe the dexcool is part of the problem...use the coolant that "For All Coolant Systems" is still the green anti-freeze...Hope this helps.

Is 190,000 miles bad for a 2003 Nissan altima 3.2se? It's leaking anti freeze real bad what can be the problem is it going to be expensive to get it fixed & is it worth it at this point

the leak cannot be that expensive maybe its just a split hose. i'd drive it till it died. nissans are good for 240,000 miles when you take care of them

The heater will not blow hot air unless you are giving it gas

Welcome to

This is a classic symptom of low coolant level or air in the system. Too, clogged heater core.

Buy a 5 min flush from your local dealer. With a gallon of Anti freeze and water pump lube. Flush the system per instructions on the back of the 5 min flush bottle. And add the one gallon of anti-freeze to system. The top off with water. Make sure engine is running with the heat selector on and fan on high.

See if the will work if not Change thermostat.

Thank you for using

I had put dexcool anti freeze in my 2003 altima nissan now it's smoking a thick white smoke from my exhaust

Dexcool antifreeze cannot be mixed with any other antifreeze except the new all makes all models antifreeze. If you mixed it with green or any other antifreeze it becomes toxic & will eat away from the inside out. Try flushing it all out, but it sounds like you blew a head gasket & may have hurt other cooling system components.

Can I use standard anti-freeze or must I use GM product?

Keep in mind that there are some things you wouldn't want to substitute on your car when it comes to fluids and maintenance but you should be safe to use an aftermarket anti-freeze. Most anti-freeze is a form of alcohol since the boiling and freezing points of alcohol is much higher and lower than plain tap water.
