The switch for the back-up lights is located on the transmission itself.

No backup lights on 1990 chevy 1500 5 speed p/u

One would need to use a voltmeter and start checking for where power is lost to the bulbs. With key on, you should find power at the transm. switch. Pull the connector and check for power on one of the two wires. With key on, and reverse gear selected, power should be exiting or passing through the switch-you would find power on the wire going to the rear bulbs.
If you find no power to the switch on the transmission, check if the fuse is powered with key on. If the fuse is passing power and nothing at the switch, start looking for a broken wire. If power to and through the switch, check for broken wire from switch to bulbs, check sockets too.

I have a 96 nissan altima and it has no reverse lights and bulbs have been replaced !

There still should be an electric switch somewhere on the linkage for reverse lights. Try looking up the part at Autozone or Advance autoparts and you can probably find a picture for the backup light switch.

Just enter your vehicle on the sites and see what pops up. Once you see what the part looks like, it will be easier to find. Also, if you do not have a Owners Manual, register your car on Autozone and you can get fusebox diagrams and wiring details.

Since this is a stick shift, the Backup lights may have their own fuse.

Please rate my solution.

Backup lioghts don't work

Make sure the fuse for that circuit is good. Not sure which one (check owner's manual), but there would be a fuse. If it's not the fuse, it's probably the back-up light switch on the transmission. The switch may be integrated with the neutral safety switch, but it's still an easy replacement (just a little more cost if it's integrated).

MY BACK UP LITES DON'T WORK. I CHECKED THE FUSES UNDER THE HOOD, & THEY ALL LOOK OK. I CAN'T SEE THE FUSES INSIDE CAR ON THE KICK PANLES. CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT LOCATION THE FUSE MAY BE THAT IS FOR...

your back up lights run on the gage fuse. the problem is probably with the switch on top of the transmission. The switch looks like the picture below and has 2 cables coming out. Remove the connectors from the switch. Grab the one that only has 3 terminals inside and connect the terminals inside the connector that go to the red and yellow wires using a big paper clip. Turn the ignition key on to see if the lights work. If yes, replace the switch. If not, problem is in the wiring. Please let me know if you have questions.

1995 Pontiac Sunfire Backup Lights where is the switch to activat

the switch is under the dash by the brake peddle arm. when you let off the brake it pushes switch in to turn lights off. may just be stuck, other wise it probably needs to be replaced.

S80 backup light wont work

There are only 2 things to check other than the bulbs, 1st the back up lite fuse, and the 2nd the back up light switch on the trans, if the fuse is ok replace the backup light switch.
