Hi,

  • White smoke = Coolant is getting into your cylinder (bad head gasket usually, in your case, probably an unsuccessful gasket job on the intake).
  • Blue Smoke = Oil, has a blue texture to it when it burns... (Usually bad Valve Guide Seals, not uncommon to see in some cars after as few as 40,000 miles.)
  • Black Smoke = Unburned fuel. That means that you have way too much fuel going into the cylinder, and being wasted. (Can be burned intake valves, Bad O2 Sensors-or dirty, throttle body/injector/carburetor needs adjustment).
So that is the general rule of thumb on Smoke color.

My BMW 525i pcv tubes was broken replaced all cleaned the icv had a lot of smoke cleared up within a week .seemed to have fixed but now I have small trail of sooty smoke

As a general rule black smoke is soot from excess fuel, white smoke is either steam or a great deal of unburned fuel (mainly diesels) and blue or blue/grey smoke is burning oil.

A trail of sooty smoke would indicate too much fuel is entering the cylinders. Perhaps you have a dribbling injector or a faulty sensor or perhaps your injectors are old and worn with bad spray patterns.

No power black smoke 2001 6.6 duramax

There are many reasons for black smoke. This color indicates incomplete combustion of the diesel fuel. Possible injector or injector timing problem would be the first thing to look at. Other causes can be a defective turbo... air restriction... engine running too cold... internal issues to name a few

My 2003 diesel prado gives off a heavy puff of white smoke smelling of diesel when I start it cold, the engine also have a uneven idle for the first few seconds.

sounds like injector is leaking letting fuel leak into a cyclinder the smoke is raw unburned fuel then it takes a minute or so to clear the cyclinder

Bad injector or cracked cup make your semi truck

a bad injector will cause smoke and just ruff idle =unburned fuel, a crack in cup will cause problems loss of compression .releasing pressure back into motor or excessive blow by in the road tube

04 duramax. Rough idle, blue and stinky exshast. I think a bad injector. Any easy solutions

You do have a bad injector and should replace it real soon. It is open and fuel in pooring into ya cylender. And the undurnt fuel is running into your oil too. So have it changed before you get more problems down the road.

On 2005 duramax injectors, is there a recall on this issue

05 duramax injectors have gone bad I'm told because the ecm has gone bad. Is this the case or I'm I being told a crock? They say it needs 4 injectors. While I was driving down the road it started missing and then it would quit and start missing again. After about 6 miles it died. After changing the fuel filter and priming the system it would not start unless assisted with gas vapor. It will run for a few seconds (20 or so) very rough with no power at all and then would die. Does Chevrolet have any recomendations or will they give any assistence with this problem. I don't think I'm the first person that has had injector problems with the Duramax .

Thanks

2003 GMC Duramax Diesel won't start

I see that you had the injectors replaced 20,000 miles ago. I would still check the oil to make sure it is not overfull. The new injectors could be bad. If the oil level is not overfull then get a paper towel and touch the dip stick tip on the paper towel while oil is on the dip stick. If it's only oil it will not spread. If it has diesel in the oil the oil with spread. If this test doesn't show the injectors to be bad then you have three other possibilities. The FICM (fuel injection control module), the fuel pressure regulator, or the injection pump. It's hard to pinpoint what the problem is without running more tests and the only way to run those tests is with the computer the dealership has. Just so you know your injectors are still under warranty until 100,000 miles. Most likely you will have to take it to the dealership to get you truck fixed. I hope this helps you some.
